They will circle a scene in progress for a long time. Usually at night you will see the spotlight on while they fly. It’s woken me up before.
One time during the day there was an armed robbery near my office. The helicopter was flying low, circling the area, as it became a neighborhood search on foot. From inside you might’ve been mistaken the helicopter was landing on the building.
