I had to have this surgery to repair my left bicep tendon.
Any of you had this surgery? It's only been 4 days and I'm already sick of having this damn contraption on! So hard to get comfortable to sleep!

Can you tell me about your recovery and what I might expect?

Was your bicep off the bone/detached? How bad was the tear?

A lot of folks end up sleeping in a recliner for a while. Try to take your pain meds or a melatonin before you go to bed. Do you have another type of brace or even a sling to sleep in.

I had that exact surgery and brace last August. It sucked for the first few weeks but once I was able to take the brace off at night and extend to 0°, it wasn't that bad. It did take about 6 months before I was able to lift 5lbs and I am just now getting to 100% of my pre-injury strength back.

Just had this procedure last September. First couple of weeks suck for pain, but once you can take that contraption off you'll appreciate not having to wear that. Had full tear off the bone. Was lifting light weights again in January, almost full strength today, but still cautious. Even played golf recently with no issues. All in all, the recovery wasn't that bad.

I had a complete rupture 2 years ago. Surgeon talked me out of having it repaired. He had repaired/reattached torn rotator cuff on the same arm the year before. I was surprised how little the bicep actually does. After a few weeks of healing I rarely know anything is different except the deformity.

had it a year ago. the first few weeks in the exoskeleton sucked, but was a smooth recovery once that bastard came off. took almost 6 months to be back at 100%. More painful than rotator cuff.

It sucks but you better wear it. I'm a PT and that thing will keep you from re-tearing the biceps. Will stop you from over extending biceps and picking up on things you shouldn't. Sleeping is the worst. Try putting a pillow or two under your arm and rest your hand on your stomach. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck!

As long as your therapy team follows the Indiana protocol then (that’s what I’ve used when I was at an outpatient clinic for hand and upper extremity therapy) you should make a good recovery

It wasn't that bad.I dont think it completely detached. The doctor even suggested that I may get away without surgery but it would only return to a percentage of what I had. The surgery wont make it 100% but a lot better than opting out of it.

My stepson had this done on right shoulder and acted all tough and shite and didn’t listen to doc about wearing harness. Ended up having a more serious and delicate procedure that will take even longer to heal.

Ok, not all injuries are the same so take my experience with a grain of salt. I tore my left biceps two years ago this October when I slipped on gravel backing up my motorcycle. I muscled up my bike but knew I tore the tendon immediately. My arm was black from my shoulder down to my upper forearm. A few friends had torn theirs prior and I asked what they did. One had the surgery and the rest had not and the one who had wished he hadn't. Shortly after I tore it I consulted a friend who was a trainer for the AZ DBacks and now is the head trainer for the Professional Bull Riders Tour and has seen many of the same injury. I asked what I should do and his response was "not a goddamn thing". He said to not use that arm for eight weeks and it would scar over. I'm glad I took his advice- aside from some cosmetic changes that are only noticable if I flex. I am back lifting as I was prior to the injury. Your mileage may vary.

Yes. Had distal tendon rupture about 7 years ago. Completely sheared off of the bone. Dr. Ahmad in BR did the surgery. Think it was 6 weeks after surgery no use at all. Then added like 5 pounds every week or two with therapy. After 6 months I was full released.

Just watch some of the YouTube videos in the procedure……

My dad tore his about 6 months after I did mine.

Haha you didn’t have a distal biceps. You had a proximal biceps. Tenotomies are common with RCR repairs.
