Through 3 weeks the Bengals are dead last in offensive touchdowns and yards per play

4.0 yards per play- dead last in the nfl
3 offensive touchdowns-dead last in the nfl
There is no way a backup qb couldn’t have also produced dead last production. Now, they played burrow and didn’t allow him to heal to also not get any real value at all with playing him. It made zero sense how the Bengals handled this

Possibly but at 0-2, the season is on the line. They gambled (are gambling) with Burrow to hopefully get him back healthy with a realistic shot at the playoffs.
Sometimes the stats don’t tell the whole story. Burrow made some quick decisions last night with his mobility limitations and a weak OL that 2nd string guys couldn’t make.

Ya think? But could a back up have won a game despite that horrible production?

53% and 5.3 yards per attempt passing yes I think a backup could do that, plus the fact a backup can at least attempt to throw down the field opens up everything else as well
The bengals have a lot of offensive talent. I think a backup would be able to produce a far more functional offense than what burrow has done so far. And add to the fact that doing this is keeping burrow from healing, it makes ZERO sense. This version of burrow and the bengals has zero shot to do anything

One legged Burrow> Jake Browning

Any qb can do that. Dead serious. 55% while you are only attempting 4 yards per pass on average is wild

Obviously, knowing where they'd be in 3 games, they likely would have sat him.
But starting the season w/ 2 division games somewhat forced their hand.
Plus, while most of this is his injury, some of it is lack of practice/reps, which would still be an issue if you sat him.
I suspect they're gutting it out until their bye, and will then decide what to do.

There is zero hook here. It’s all right there in the post. Burrow is injured clearly worse than the bengals want to lead on and he is completely ineffective. And instead of letting him rest, they are playing him not allowing him to heal which makes no sense at all considering his production is so limited

Can every QB get a victory? That’s all Cincy cares about. Not your fantasy stats. 5 scoring drives.

Arm strength has never been Burrow's big weapon and without his legs under him it's clearly significantly worse. Defenses are going to feast on that.
If they trotted Browning out there, they'd almost certainly be 0-3 and the season would be teetering on over.

You didn’t watch the preseason. They have no good option at backup.
They started 0-2, if Burrow takes 4 weeks off their season is over. They can’t win with their backup.

I do not think the bengals backups are good, but I think they can produce 55% completion percentage on 4 yard attempts. I think there are a plethora of QBs that can manage an offense that way and pray the defense wins the game. That’s the point. And by doing that, you also have a 100% healthy burrow likely next week. Now, you still have this production going forward.

Burrow is clearly injured and it has affected his passing and mobility.
But there are little things he did last night that helped the offense eek out some points. One was a 3rd and 9, Burrow saw the defense, you can see him make a check at the line and the receivers adjusted their spacing, then he hit Tyler Boyd on a short slant and he had room to run and pick up the first down.
That 11 yard play doesn’t light up the stat sheet, but it moves the chains and helped to put them in field goal range.

Bengals offensive line is bad and has been since before Burrow got there. There's a reason he is the reigning sack/QB hit champion. Now he's playing hurt because only he can generate any semblance of an offense behind that line. The coaches altered their game plan to try and get the ball out quicker, but when you can't threaten vertically defenses don't have to try very hard to defend you. Burrow's career will be short if he remains in Cincy.

Not sure why people are arguing with you.
If you asked the Bengals today: would you rather restart the season with Jake Browning while Burrow rests (risk starting 0-2 or 0-3) of keep status quo, they'd pick the former.
Now, hindsight is 20/20, so their decision is probably defensible based on what they thought at the time

I think the truth is burrow likely didn’t divulge just how injured he was. But that’s what competitors will do. Someone on the bengals had to see just how limited he is

Burrow wants to play. All the insider tweets the last few days has been that the front office and doctors were split on whether Joe should play or not, but Joe was adamant he wanted to play.
Problem is, other teams can watch film and see that they don’t have to game plan for 2021-2022 Joe Burrow, they see what 2023 Joe Burrow looks like physically and they will really clamp down on the intermediate routes.
It is a tough call. Burrow is just hoping this calf improves even without much rest.

Think the bengals found something in last night's game. The key is moving Jamarr Chase around he is your playmaker so get this man his touches. Higgins just looks so soft at times.
