The new biography on him is greatness.

Glad I grew up in the 80s and 90s and got to watch his era of baseball. Nothing compares.

"Rickey said why stop at second when you can steal third also? That is how Rickey thinks"

Can you imagine the kids of today watching a 1980's Cardinals game and seeing Willie McGee and Vince Coleman beat the shite out of the ball straight down into the Astro-turf so it bounced a mile in the air, making it impossible for anyone to get them out at first? And then proceeding to steal second and maybe even third.
The kids would have no idea what they were watching

In 1996, Rickey was a new addition to the Padres roster.
As he boarded the team bus and looked for a seat, Steve Finley told him, “You have tenure, sit wherever you want.”
Rickey looked at Finley and replied, “Ten years? Rickey’s been playing at least 16, 17 years.”

Steinbrenner used to take the Yankees to play an exhibition game against UF each year. One year, apparently someone stole Henderson's shoes. When asked for comment he said, "Someone stole Rickey's shoes."

My favorite player.
My first game was in Oakland.
Rickey hit a leadoff homer and stole a bag later on.
A's beat the Red Sox 9-2.
Awesome day.

Unrelated but I was at a A's game in probably early med 90's when he stole 2nd then took the base to the dugout.
They had to stop the game and put a new base out.
It must have been some record; I just remember him taking the base and walking off.

They couldn’t even imagine Ichiro not going for the fences with very swing.

I get the glamour of long ball but if I owned a MLB team id want guys that can turn a walk into a double

That's wild. Hopefully the rules changes this year increase steals. The game is much more exciting when someone can actually change the game on the bases. Nothing I find more exciting than a good triple.
