Ideas on how to fix college football (this is SEC biased but it could apply to most conferences)

- do away with East/West SEC Conf and have 4 divisions:( UT, aTm, OU, Mizzou) (AR, LSU, Ole Miss, MS State) (Auburn, Bama, Tenn, Vandy) (KY, SC, GA, FL) or something like that.
- Leave two weeks of regular season TBD with top 4 teams playing each other and then last week the top 2. Teams not in the division leaders play an out of division team all randomly selected by computer.
- end SEC Championship game as it would essentially be the last week of season mini playoff deal.
- SEC winner gets auto seed to Playoffs regardless of record.

Remaining teams get Bowl bids to occur on week zero following year (September) with no repercussions on W-L record or rankings. Basically like a pre-season game. Graduated Seniors wishing to play can if they want to as a perk. Most won’t play if on an NFL team but may choose to to showcase themselves for other leagues.

- Any Opt Outs must be submitted one week prior to the final two weeks of season without any peril to their scholarship.
- Any Opt Outs declaring after said period loses their scholarship, and owes it back to the University/ presumably paid back from NIL contracts.
- Medical / Family/ Emergencies/ Extraordinary circumstances would not incur reimbursements and/or penalties.

- SEC enters into contract with Big10, Pac12, ACC where it rotates with each team playing 1-2 teams from those conferences each year.
- TV contracts must include NFL- like commercial timeouts to greatly speed up game play. No more 4+ hour games.

- Officiating needs to be revamped using computers, telemetry, sensors, and more tangible data in calling penalties and reviews. There should be immediate appeals (challenges by each team where another conference panel reviews calls and can overturn Birmingham’s ruling) Referees who consistently make poor calls or even blow calls on game-changing, or season-ending calls should not only be fired but fined by the league or NCAA. Officials should be full time employees and rotate around through the major conferences or be all paid by the NCAA.

- season ticket holders get additional points, perks, upgrades based on how many times their tickets get scanned - not necessarily by the original owner.

- Let students drink in student section or let them bring booze in (just don’t search them) Get with Tigerland bars and offer discounts / reduced drink prices for students who stay after beginning of the 4Q through end of game Give out passes out as people leave.

- End all 11:00 games. First games start at 2:30, unless mutually agreed to by each University regardless of conference affiliation.

I submit you would have faster and more entertaining games. The end of the season would be just as wild.

The stadium experience would be less boring waiting in the dude with the sign to hurry up and get off the field.

You would know who’s playing and who’s not sooner rather than later.

These are not my original thoughts, just ideas. It can be fixed to where college football doesn’t die.

I’m fine with NIL I just think that the NIL should tie in financially with a clause that requires them to stay at so and so college for x-years. It may have that already I don’t know. I assumed so hence why I suggested giving the university the power to penalize them for transferring. Nothing stops them from leaving - only money.

Make the conference championships mean something or get rid of them.

This is step 1.

Step 2: tell the NCAA to frick off.....fire their arse. Create a new governing body consisting of each conferences commissioner

NIL doesn’t come from the university directly. This can’t happen

This is like the one rule that actually exist for NIL. The deals cannot be tied to future performance it accomplishments.

People think of NIL deals like salaries in pro sports when they should be thinking of them as endorsements for pro athletes which is what they are.

Someone will have to collectively bargain for the players in order to protect their rights as they are more of an employee than student athlete now. Right now, players have all of the leverage. They can leave whenever they want, they can make money etc. I don't mind NIL for how it was intended to be used, but it's gotten completely out of hand. No one in their right mind will want to stay in college coaching to deal with the current challenges of roster management/NIL on top of actually coaching, player development, and recruiting. A CBA could benefit both the players and the school.

Playoffs will fix opt outs for top 16 or however many they expand to.

The lesser bowl games will die off or could continue as an added Spring Game Challenge. April spring game in the Dome. Do it regionally. LSU vs TCU or an LSU vs Tulane.

It's the NIL and instant transfer rule that has to be fixed. Basically, unfettered free agency.

These aren't student athletes anymore, it's a paid gig with academics waaaaay down the list.

How about we keep it simple.

1. If a player accepts NIL money they must wait an additional year before declaring for the draft.
2. Transfers must sit out a year if they played more than 4 games the season prior.
3. NIL contracts need to penalize skipping bowl games.

This makes no sense. Major players would still not play to avoid injury when they have a game that actually counts the following week. Also you are going to have random players from the previous year come back for one random week to play in a game, when they haven't been on the team for the past 8 months?

This doesn't make sense either. Universities don't have anything to do with NIL. Once you give out a scholarship, you can't just take it back.

Pretty sure many schools already do this

Students are allowed to drink in the student section. The school isn't going to officially advocate for students who are mostly underage to go out to the bars. A free drink coupon isn't going to make a student not leave early.

This would suck as a fan of college football.

It is like fighting Mother Nature, ex. trying to direct the Mississippi River, etc.

College football is a bastardized amateur/professionalized sport. Don't "save it". Help it thrive.

The barriers to it fully thriving are the amateur aspects of it. NIL is a more transparent (said "more" specifically) model of its professionalism. But this bidding and pricing of supply/demand of talent has been cloaked in amateur student-athlete NCAA BS platform for decades.

Let the NFL take it over and create a real high school draft, player trade, salary caps (and floors), etc. framework and brand agreements that provide universities with franchise rights and privileges, with a key intent to keep college football unique features alive and help them thrive, via university, students and alumni engagement

Set up in Top/Mid/Lower tier leagues, per salary cap/floor tiers

Keep the student-athlete for the majority of the players who will not see NFL fields in their future, an opt-in feature (ie, student/degree is available as an option if NFL does not work out).

Give or take...

Professional model with university franchises, essentially

College football doesn’t need “saving” or “fixing”. It’s doing just fine. Just because it’s not the same as your idea of “the good ole days” (which were not nearly as good as you think they are. It’s clouded by the rose-tinted memory phenomenon that every human experiences.

Sit out one year after transferring. No other changes needed.

One time transfer, grad transfer and NIL deals are all fine with me, however, the tampering has to be curtailed. That needs to be the first thing regulated because it will be the biggest problem moving forward.

Lol
And many people believe Bama controls things now. Let this happen and you will really see how a select few schools control things. They will easily install their puppet and every call will go their way.

The transfer portal has to go away, sports are too woke to rid of NIL, NIL and the portal as they are currently constructed can’t work
