True or False: LSU Has Hired Fewer than 3 Elite Football Coaches Since 1950.

In light of all the "coach talk" I started thinking about LSU's past football coach hires. I came up with what I considered to be 3 truly elite hires.
Dietzal
Arnsparger
Saban
True or False and where am I right or wrong......

Was Saban considered elite when we hired him?

I would say "no" but my criteria was based more on results during their tenure at LSU.

I think you can add Rien to that list. He was THE guy when hired

Arnsparger was not elite, not even close

If your criteria is results at LSU then you have to include Miles.

If you did, I truly feel sorry for you.

Good point.

Nobody can touch Miles’ accomplishments as coach of LSU. Nobody.

If you include coordinators and position coaches I would say Aranda and Jenkins are/were elite when we hired them. Saban was an above average coach when he came to LSU but later reached elite status.

For the pure sake of argument, how much did Saban "building" the program have to do with his success? I still remember Saban's initial press conference at Bama and talking about how those were his players. This is how we did things at LSU. This is what we expected of people at LSU.
If you go back and watch that presser, it's almost as if he's telling them we're going to use the LSU blueprint to be successful.
And yes, I agree with you on Les.

Another good point. What about Jimbo? Kirby? Surely there were some other coordinators over the years that are or were considered elite.

False.
Saban was a nobody when LSU hire him. I even remember the collective "Who is Nick Saban, and didnt LSU just throttle his Michigan State team"

Yeah. Most of the “Whiney-babies” would have had nothing to do with it.
