The Reasons why LSU ends up a national seed

If LSU continues to steamroll the competition, or wins the SEC tourney without a loss, they will be a National Seed and Here is why:
National Seed Locks So Far, imo:
Virginia
ULL
Florida State
Oregon State
Florida
1. South Carolina
- RPI is now 10th
- Lost 4 SEC series including losing to Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Georgia
- 15-10 against Top 50 RPI teams
- 10-10 away from home (Including Neutral and Away games)
- Got embarrassed in a game against Mississippi State today when a win would have locked up a National Seed.
- They have not been good under pressure this season
2. LSU's Offensive Explosion
- It is making national attention and don't let that fool you, it is huge. The committee is constantly hearing about the Tigers in Baton Rouge finally getting things going. They instantly remember the Guerrilla Ball days and see money, money, money.
3. Teams Ahead of Us
Ole Miss - Probably not going to be ahead of us anymore
Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, Rice, Houston - All these teams are basically ranked ahead of us but there isn't enough here for all of them to be considered so just mark your calendar as only one, if any, will host in this group
4. Indiana?
Seriously, where do these guys come from every season?
5. Vanderbilt
High RPI but not impressive in the SEC during the middle of the season. 5-5 in their last 10 games
Bottom Line:
It isn't over yet, we can still end up the #8 Seed nationally. Just hang onto your pants folks, it can always be a possibility.

If they keep blasting the competition and win the tournament with no losses then they will get a national seed

Agreed.
GEAUX TIGERS!!!!
That was a little weird for me, but I meant every word of it.
Edit: Another reason- Best overall record in best conference.

We won't get a national seed. Some people still have us not even hosting a regional. It's fun to dream but it won't happen.

Regional is locked in. Since 1999, only 3 teams have finished in the top three of the regular season standings and not hosted. (Arkansas 2013, Florida 2008, SC 2003) We finished 3rd this year.

What happened today? Those 3 teams lost. 2 of them badly.
If we go undefeated in the SEC Tournament, we would be on a 8 game winning streak with extremely dominant wins over very good teams.
We aren't out of it yet. Chances are slim at a super host, but if we keep playing the way we have the past 5 games and roll through the tournament undefeated, we are definitely going to be under consideration for the last super host.

LSU Tigers (RPI: 16). The Tigers are in a unique position: They're the third seed in the SEC tournament but probably fourth or fifth among conference teams in line for a national seed. Winning their last four games 56-4 can't hurt, but the difficulty of the competition in those games left something to be desired. A deep run in the conference playoff might get them a national seed, but probably only if Ole Miss, South Carolina and maybe Vanderbilt bomb out. Mostly, LSU needs a couple of wins to shore up their case to host a regional.

We need to schedule better competition out of conference, that will likely be the thing that bites us in the arse this year. Don't want to play a home and home series against one of the top tier teams, at the very least play a home and home with either Rice or Houston for a mid week game instead of playing the damn SWAC schools.

I clicked on this hoping for a good argument. Solid post!

I doubt they'll award both LSU and Southwestern a super.

Let's get to the root of the problem. Maineri needs to start scheduling tougher non conference games. We could do something like the old Winn Dixie showdowns. Texas, Houston, Rice, LSU, ULL, and Southern Miss all play at Minute Maid in Houston. The 3 Texas teams play the other 3 teams in a round robin format. This would be a cool event and great for RPI.

They're really good and a lock for a top 8.
LSU needs OM, Vandy, and USCe to lose today and they need to sweep at Hoover to have even the smallest chance at a top 8. LSU still isnt a lock to host much less get a top 8.

So you're saying there's a chance?
Posted on 5/22/14 at 6:16 am to BayouBengals18
Very very small, but yes.

The only way Ole Miss and Vandy both lose is if a meteor hits.
Posted on 5/22/14 at 6:42 am to The Boat
If that meteor hits then LSU will get a top 8
I think people are putting too much stock in how important the SECT actually is.
MSU's RPI is up to 27 FWIW

This is the only part you got wrong. They're getting a national seed. So that now makes 6 locks. It certainly isnt impossible but it would have been better if lsu beat
Vandy
Ole Miss
Vandy
Florida
and now that cant happen. But if Florida somehow gets it together
Vandy
Arkansas
Vandy
Florida
aint bad either.

I'm keeping my lucky rabbit's feet crossed.

Throw in Miami losing to Clemson tonight and then Duke. They had the best record in the ACC but going 0-3 in pool play might get the committee's attention.
