Defensive personnel preventing House from running his defense?

The announcers mentioned that LSU is forced into running simplistic defensive schemes due to personnel.

Mentioned injuries and of course the eligibility issues.

Personally I think “next man up” means exactly that. Everyone is at the same practice and learning the same playbook.

I’m curious to see if BK/Woodward give House a pass this year.

I think I know where the board stands on this issue, but don’t be surprised if he’s back next year…

Then he needs to adjust and do better at working around what he’s got. Don’t ask me how because I don’t get paid to figure it out. I just know our talent is better than it plays on that side of the ball and we are underperforming there. Period.

Problem is 3rd and House originated last season. I just think House is a better fit dealing with refined talent instead of raw talent. So the NFL fits him perfectly.

This group is not very talented - like at all - as you can tell when they consistently lose one on one battles. That has nothing to do with being out of place or scheme.

That being said, House has been terrible. Not spying Milroe, for example, was just inexcusable.

All players are training in the same system. Maybe these step up guys aren’t ready yet, but they should have the same amount of practice and explanation as the desired starters.

We did make a critical stop or two against Florida. It’s a start.

If so, he shouldnt be running his defense and needs to adjust.

Completely agree. Every game has looked the same, defensively. How many PPG have been allowed?

If we were getting in different ways from series to series on defense I could buy the “we have no players” argument. But that is not the situation. We have stayed in a scared, soft, drop everyone zone coverage with only combos and twists up front and get killed every week. Why not throw caution to the wind and just blitz 6 or 7 guys and force the offense to make a tough play? We finally blitzed the other night against Florida and they threw a long deep ball that got ruled incomplete on replay review so we got a 3rd down stop. Wasn’t that much better than dropping everyone deep and giving them easy throws in the middle of the field for a first down?

Send some pressure and try to create some negative plays for the offense or god forbid, a turnover.

Unreal.

Not to mention BK turning over the keys to his defense to his DC, which he’s said he does. You have to step in as the HC.

Yea, I refuse to believe that even our second string is “historically bad”.

He’s in over his head IMO.

Then he needs to recruit better and get better players for scheme. Because now our top 2 dbs have flipped and we don't have any game changers committed for d line. No excuses the def coaches aren't performing on any level

Agree the lack of pressure from LBs is hard to watch.

All off-season all we heard was how bad our DBs are.

Well then we need to give them some relief by getting to the QB.

As you said, take some fricking risks

Personnel has nothing to do with Speights whiffing on 75% of tackles

Take notice of the contrast between how absolutely devastating LSU's offensive blocks are and how atrocious the defensive tackling is. It's not every offensive play, but just look back at highlights and focus on everyone else besides our player with the ball. You'll see some stunning blocks by just about everyone on the offense. It's the basics which our defensive players have not gotten.

So we had no one who could have spied Milroe? Sorry, but anyone off the street could have devised a better defense for Bama.

Agree completely

We need major defensive changes

But I’m worried House gets a pass/another year to right the ship

Eh.

Look, I want House gone as much as anyone, but we do have some sub packages that he probably can't run because of the lack of personnel/ experience (particularly amongst the DBs). And especially after Sam got kicked out.

He's run some dime looks for instance.

That said, I just wish we could get the tackling down. BK mentioned something about that in the postgame the other day, something to the effect of that comes down to "want to"/ effort.

It seems like anytime this is mentioned the coach thinks they are the smartest person in the room and have to try to prove it at every instance.

Only to be replaced by someone that isnt an idiot and bring immediate success.

There is 0 doubt he is limited in what he can run.

The issue that others have mentioned is that there have been blatant missteps, such as failing to spy Milroe, and overall lack of discipline on the defensive side.

Good DC adjust their defense to the personnel. And they recruit guys who can play their defense.
