I mean he’s going to be one of the best pitchers in the MLB, like Ohtani. Can he hit like him? I e never seen him hit, but I’d love too. Will scared of injury to let him hit? Angels let Ohtani hit. Why can’t Skenes? Look at the Superstar Ohtani is because he can do both. He’s probably more loved than anyone in Japan. I would love do see Skenes pitch and hit!!

Would have been awesome if the NL didn’t adopt the DH role.

No, I’d be shocked if Skenes ever has 40 plate appearances in a season, much less 40 homers.

We never got see how Skenes would have done against SEC pitching, and he even said that not having to worry about hitting helped his pitching, so we’ll really never know unless he does it.

What? Two totally different types of players. Skenes will be Skenes.

Because of arm injury, Ohtani only hit his first mob season.
I just wonder if he had showed what a great pitcher he was,
if the Angels would have done like JJ and not let him hit because
of thef at of getting hit in his hands. Also, Beloso was really goo
from day 1 this season and never slumped. If Skenes hat been the D,
there wouldn’t have been a place for him

No. As good as Skenes is and will be, Ohtani is a once in a century type player

The “last” Ohtani was Babe Ruth.

It’s not that skenes can’t do both…it’s that he took a meteoric leap on the mound when he stopped hitting, so I’m guessing if he went back to hitting he would be less effective as a pitcher. It’s same reason almost every stud prospect focuses on one or the other- being good as either a pitcher or a hitter is much more valuable then being below average at both

Ohtani is one of the most talented baseball players of all time, with a good argument for #1. He’s a top 5 hitter in baseball while pitching at an all-star level. It’s absolutely bonkers what he does.

There were others that could have done great at both but that was not the way. Back then you would get beamed and a fight would happen or maybe nothing at all. Today, the rules protect the players far more.

Do you guys really think if Skenes hit anything close to how Ohtani hits then Jay would not have used him as a hitter?

He is a pitcher for the rest of his life and he will be a great one. The Angels let Ohtani hit and pitch because he is one of the best hitters AND pitchers in Major League Baseball. If he was just above average at either one they would have him focus on the other one exclusively.

If anything, he'll be the next Bumgarner: a pitcher who rakes, but only in "Break Glass in case of Emergency" situations.

How does this have 7 upvotes? He doesn't bat in college but he'll start batting against the best in the world

How about we let him actually make a major league roster first? I know we all love him, but getting from the minors to MLB and staying there is one of the hardest things to do in professional sports and is not a guarantee.

Never say never. If he blows his shoulder out, I'm sure he would get a shot at being a position player.

As long as he is a dominant pitcher, I suspect that he will continue as a pitcher only.

If Ohtani were to give up hitting, would his pitching improve to another level? Or vice-versa? Who knows. W do know that Skenes took a big step up as a pitcher when he focused only on pitching. I can't imagine they would risk his development as a pitcher in order to experiment with him as a hitter.
