Jones was better than Gaye last season.
Wiggins looks the part. But he is probably still too raw to be a starter just yet. That's why LSU brought in some veteran transfers at DE

Excited to see Savion and DaShawn, hoping both and Quincy can make their presence known this season.

The really didn't bring in any veterans that play the strong DE positions. It really Jones,Wiggins, and Wormack.

Is Wiggins athletic enough to play the Buck position instead of the strong DE?

Wiggins is a SDE all the way.

I think he's going to be 280-95 before he done here. He'll will be a versatile strong DE/pass rushing DT. I really don't want him dropping in coverage or out in space making tackles.

The whole defensive line is really exciting. Getting Maason back is obviously huge. That should make Mekhi Wingo that much better. He lead the nation in defensive snaps last year. Roy had to have been top 5 or 10 himself. Those dudes literally never came off the field. The fact that they were as good as they were despite having to be exhausted was incredible.
With Maason next to him and Guillory being another year developed in the program and a guy like Hill, who I’ve heard good things about his development (I think Maason talked him up in his interview with Moscona) adding depth, I think Wingo was was going to have a monster year even if we hadn’t added anybody from the portal.
But with all the old, veteran guys we brought in on the D-line, we should have an interior rotation of 6-7 guys that could sustain injuries. I don’t know enough about them to know which ones will shake out towards the top, but just the sheer numbers at minimum will allow for Mekhi and Maason to stay fresh though out the game and still have plenty of gas to be at their best in the 4th quarters when they need to be.
House’s defense really isn’t built for interior guys to have a lot of “stats.” They do a lot of dirty work, taking on double teams, allowing for the edge guys, whether that’s the strong side DE like Savion or Wiggins and whoever else winds up in that rotation, the jack, the linebackers, and however they move Perkins around, to come in and clean up. Similar to Aranda’a defense where the linebackers were the stars.
But despite that and the fact that Wingo and Maason will be on the field for less plays than Wingo and Roy were last year, I think that freshness will allow them to beat those double teams and come up with more sacks and TFLs and forced fumbles. Wingo will do a lot more damage in a lot fewer plays than last year. And if your interior guys in a House defense are not only doing the dirty work, but are actually making plays behind the line of scrimmage, the entire defense becomes extremely dangerous. It’s gonna put a lot of offenses behind the chains early in drives, which should lead to both a lot of 3 and outs and turnovers.

Don't you hate it when you open your presents and it's just a pile of felt?

I thought they brought in at least 1. Still, those 3 should be able to hold it down. If any injuries, Maason can certainly slide over there if needed. Wingo is strong and quick enough too, despite being a little short. And the great thing about having so many numbers on the DL this year is not only to have a rotation to keep guys fresh or to be able to absorb injuries, but it should allow for House to be really creative with different packages. Add Perkins to that, and there’s all kinds of things House should be able to do.

Savion will have more sacks than whoever ends up at Jack.
Mark it down

Pretty sure Jones is the super athletic one. Had a nice high jump that immediately made ne think of Talence Sawyer out of Bastrop. High jump and broad jump ability just screams explosive IMO
