Hagen Smith being a lefty. JJ may load the lineup with right handed hitters.

Jones at 1st
Kling in RF
Morgan in LF
Travinski at DH

Hmmm ??

Why DH Travinski and put in Milazzo? Travinski can catch and hit IMO

I would definitely start Kling for defense
Jones - not so sure but I would find a way to not have Pearson Jobert and Beloso all in lineup and that would likely mean Jones at DH instead of Beloso

problem is our righties have had just as much problems with Hagen Smith as anyone else
maybe this time will be better and if nothing else you get another look at him in case you have to face him in Omaha possibly

It could be a long weekend. Give Trav a rest day behind the plate. Plus Skenes is more comfortable with Milazzo who has caught him nearly every game since Neal went out.

He hasn’t taken a platoon approach at all this season, so I doubt that changes. In fact, as I’ve said in other threads, he seems intent on having a minimum number of lefties in the starting lineup even when the opposing starter is a lefty.

Jobert’s BA is around .260 vs LH pitching so he may still get the start in the OF along with Pearson.

Beloso or Jones at DH with Morgan at 1B.

Travinski has yet to catch Skenes in a game, but you start him at C over Milazzo who now becomes a spot starter/late defensive replacement.

You go with yesterdays lineup. Only thing I would maybe think about changing is milazzo as C and Trav as DH.

Pearson has reached 6 times his last 2 starts I think. We going to just yank him out of the lineup because of a lefty starting?

Pearson is starting to find a rhythm. I think he gives you a better bat than Kling even against LHP.

I get that we have a lot of LH hitters in our lineup, and it may seem like today would be a good day to get some young RHers some ABs against a lefty. But all Jay cares about really getting out of this tournament is preparing guys for the post season and setting them up to hopefully win the CWS.

But Smith is the kind of guy they could face in Omaha or the supers, so more important to let the lineup you like moving forward to get to face him, regardless of the LH/LH matchup. I don’t think you’re taking the bat out of veteran guys like Beloso or Jobert(and to a lesser extent Pearson)’s hands in a 1-run, late-inning game with the season on the line and put it in the hands of a true freshman.

So I think the value is higher in letting the LH hitters see good LH pitching relative to preparing the team for the post-season. That said, I think both Jones and Kling could wind up having some big ABs in the next few weeks, so I’d like to get them some run in Hoover, too. Especially Jones. But probably not against Smith and Arkansas, who we could easily face again in Omaha.

Hopefully he does, but judging by history, he’ll have 4-5 lefties.

Even though in G1 vs Ark was one of the worst offensive games of the year vs Hollan/ Smith, where he ran out 4 LH. He has the template on what not to do.

Pearson, Morgan, Jobert & Neal started that day.

I may be wrong but I know coaches love playing matchups.

JJ could stay with the hot hands in Pearson and Jobert. Guess we’ll see.

I’d be good with Pearson.

Take away Kling’s recruiting ranking and watching strictly what he has produced on the field, there is zero reason he should ever step foot in the batters box again this season. He looks completely lost at the plate and if I have to watch him lean over the plate after every take, I might gauge my eyes out.

Kling had the hardest hit ball of the game yesterday for lsu.

On a day where they hit a ton of lasers.
