Most RBI in an LSU season:

Brandon Larson 1997: 118
Brad Cresse 2000: 106
Eddy Furniss 1996: 103
Todd Walker 1993: 102

Tommy White with 71 RBI through 43 games. Averaging 1.65 RBI per game.

In a season where LSU reaches their goal of a national championship LSU would play roughly 70 games +/- a couple.

70 * 1.65 = 115.5 so Tommy White is roughly on record pace.

His RBI/game is higher, he missed several games. So if he continued his actual pace, he would break the record.

It's great to follow as a fan, but I don't want that guy swinging for records at the plate. It's a team sport and I would rather him have the discipline of Crews, even if all you get is on base.

It’s an RBI record not home runs. This is literally the epitome of a team stat.

Guy gets on base. Hit him in. With less than two outs you pretty much just need to put the ball in play.

Even more amazing stat considering he is behind the GOAT in the lineup

Technically that makes it actually a less impressive stat. The "GOAT" gets on base more than anybody in LSU history. Thus Tommy has an advantage that the others didn't by having a runner on base more often than they did.

Explain this please. You don't want him coming to the plate trying to drive in runs? I don't understand your logic. I want that dude thinking of driving in runs every time he steps up to the plate, record or no record. Is this just some kind of "don't jinx it" comment?

I agree with everything in this post except the "less impressive" part. Like you said, he definitely has more opportunities for RBIs, but he is actually cashing in. Not just anyone can do that. It's actually quite impressive, IMO.

Also, Crews is clearing the bases at a high clip as well. Some of those would fall to Tommy if he were batting behind anyone else.

Still impressive none the less.

He’s the cleanup hitter. The game plan is for crews to get on base while White hammers the ball to bring in the runs
