"Nobody Watches Women's Basketball", They Said! LSU Lady Tigers

So, now that its two years in, let us revisit all those naysayers here on Tigerdropppings that said......................
"LSU should not be spending $2 million/year on a women's basketball coach"
"Kim Mulkey is not worth that salary"
"We're wasting money on a sport no one watches"
"LSU gets nothing out of hiring a women's basketball coach at that salary"
Well, apparently, somebody IS watching this sport.................
Women's Tournament As Popular as Other NCAA Championships!
And, unless you live in a hole, you've got to be blind to not see all the attention on television and social media this women's basketball program is receiving for LSU, not to mention how they've rallied the community and state around this program and university. I say Mulkey has been worth EVERY PENNEY and in fact, should receive a contract extension raising her yearly pay to 3 MILLION / YEAR!
I can't wait to hear some of the morons on The Rant from two years ago, try to STILL justify their hate for our Lady Tigers program.

People may be watching, but if last night was any indication, it’s hard to watch.

WARNING: Link brings you to BOMANI JONES

They did a good job of putting last night's games when absolutely nothing else of note was on.

I was so into that game last night, that I spent half the 4th quarter reading a thread on the OT

We are getting a boat load of publicity. That’s great. Is it worth the extra millions we are losing? I’d say yes, but to justify the losses we had better keep winning.

The Rant sure does have a lot of I told you so Soys.

Man that is some real serious cherrypicking by known moron Bomani.
I’m not sure the 2021 championship beating the ACC football championship is a sweet brag.

I hope the people that never watch but tuned into last night's game give it another go. I promise it's not usually that bad offensively lol.

The bottom line is it’s not going away. Women’s sports are literally required by law
Better to win championships than watch Nikki’s dumbass lose.

Watched a bit of the Iowa-Louisville game and it was quite entertaining

It's a pretty simple equation. What are the revenues generated vs the expenses (of which is Mulkey's $2.0M salary)? Is LSU losing more money or making more money?
His comparison argument is the 2021 championship game got better ratings than the ACC football championship game and the Duke/UNC regular season games. That very well may be true. But we are also talking about the ultimate game for one sport compared to the a regular season game and arguably the least relevant championship game of the major college football programs. And Bomani Jones isn't exactly the bastion of credibility...which is why he essentially gets fired from every job he shouldn't have gotten in the first place.
You can also question if WBB is actually becoming more popular? Or is this selective reporting?
Last year's NCAA Final (South Carolina v. UConn) had 4.6M viewers. It was the 4th most watched WBB game ever on ESPN. However, the games it trailed were played in 2002, 2004, and 1999. The 2 games it was ahead of were played in 1997 and 2003. Based on that, could the argument be made that last year was an anomaly and WBB is, on the whole, less popular than it was 15-20 years ago?

What Mulkey is doing this year is great. Certainly LSU fans are more excited about WBB than they have been in a while. There's nothing wrong with that. No one is "hating" on the women's basketball program. But many probably feel posts like this are completely overselling the interest and creating a rebound effect of creating a sense of resentment in people who may want to watch a game or two, but get turned off by those overselling the product. And I say this as someone who thinks Mulkey might be the best coach on campus!

Absolutely no part of this makes sense. No one hates women’s basketball because other people get excited for women’s basketball

That chick from Iowa was a lot of fun to watch, but she is actually good at the game. LSU is just scrappy and can play defense. It is definitely an ugly brand.

The key is TV. If ratings supported it tv networks would pay big money to broadcast WBB. They do not. End of debate.
