Me.

We were staying at the same hotel as IU. This was at the final four in Philly and after the game in walks Bobby and his coaches to the hotel bar/restaurant. The guy who sat next to me on the flight to Philly is now sitting next to me and my dad, gets up and walks over to Knight and says, "good game coach". Knight is enraged (not sure exactly why), picks up the LSU fan, and deposits him in the trash can behind the bar.

Honest to goodness, I saw the whole thing. Then Bobby is surrounded by his entourage, they go back to the table and pour some beers. My new friend is helped out of the trash can and all returns to normal. Or at least as normal can be after an event such as this.

Who knows, maybe the LSU fan is on this website?

If that is exactly how it went down, he should have been arrested.....

It's actually true at least in part and depending on which person's account you believe who were involved. You can Google it and several stories will come up about it.

Wasn't Knight something like 6'5 260+? I think the "why" is apparent.

Knight hated Dale Brown with a passion. It was almost unhinged.

This came out years ago shortly after it happened. The LSU fan did say to Knight, "Good game, coach" and extended his hand in friendship. Knight then replied, "I guess we weren't your G** D*** Tiger Bait after all." To which the fan replied, "A-hole! Bobby Knight is an A-Hole!" This precipitated the 6' 5" man to pick up a much smaller man and throw him into a garbage can.

He was hammered by LSU fans with Tiger bait that entire trip….
With a healthy Rudy, IU doesn’t have a prayer.

Yes, I think the LSU fan was a lawyer, if my memory serves me correctly.
As much of a football fan I am, I think that single lose is the most disappointed I have ever been as a Tiger fan.
I knew we were going to win it all. Damn

I was at the game too. I'm pretty sure I knew the guy this happened to but I thought it happened at the arena, not at the hotel. I could be mistaken. I, too, had heard that he said *I guess we weren't your GD tiger bait.* I don't recall the person being thrown in a trash can, I thought he pushed him against a wall.

That game was so sad. We played so well the first half but the second half it looked like the Invasion of the Body Snatchers had taken over our players.

This happened. He shoved the dude who sort of fell back into a garbage can. Wasn't the guy an attorney from Laffy? Probably posts on here.

Years ago in the early 90’s Dale called up Bobby and buried the hatchet. They are friends to this day.

Some of you must have missed that

This sounds like one of them stories told by small town, southern wannabe national broadcast sports announcers.

Story usually drawn out at trash can climax.

My memory sucks, so thanks for the reminder of the extra diatribe.

This is the exact truth.

Knight is a big guy, me also. I'm 6' 3" and 235, but it all happened so fast.

When his coaches surrounded him and pulled him away, the issue died out immediately

Condon would tell this story on his show in the 90s.
