LSU's win in the Independence Bowl was on this date in 1995

After not having gone to a bowl since 1988, I thought this was the greatest bowl in the world. So exciting to not only go to one again, but crush the opponent.
The last two years were crummy but nothing like the 1989-1994 abomination.

Fun game. A little chilly.

100%. I was a student then and we were so jacked up to get to go to Shreveport. Those were different days with different expectations, but we enjoyed the heck out of it.

Different bowls too. There 18 bowls in those days. You had to have a decent season to go to any bowl.

Was there with my dad. Great game for LSU.

Wednesday Wayback...What if I told you LSU used to be terrible
About the Bring Back the Magic game (vs Auburn) but explains the feeling at the time.

LSU would build off the win to end the losing skid, and qualify for a bowl game for the first time in the decade.
LSU's program was at such a point that students camped out to buy tickets to the Independence Bowl (where LSU would beat a Sparty team coached by Nick Saban).
Yes, we were so starved for a winner that we slept outside in order to buy tickets to a meaningless game in Shreveport.
And it was awesome.

Was so cold that game, but so worth it!

Still got my #2 LSU jersey from that season- Eddie Kennison.
I believe he took a KO back that game.

There’s a nasty rumor going around that I may or may not have been stoned out of my mind watching that game.

Little did we know that we had a coach in that game that would lead us to the national championship and usher in the golden age of LSU football... and also ruin what would've been, at the time, the greatest season in program history.

And now look at these Millennial fans bitching about this year's bowl and calling it meaningless

That’s one way to say it.

Meh, in 1995, when we at that point had only 1 national title to our name and it was 38 years ago, compared to now, when we've won 3 nationals titles in 20 years with the most recent one coming 3 years ago, yeah the Citrus Bowl seems a little meaningless compared to that Indy Bowl berth in 95.

I was in TGBFTL starting in 93, so my first two years were Hallman’s last two. They were pretty brutal, but that made the Independence Bowl mean something to us. While we all wanted a bigger bowl in a better location, it was still a blast, especially at the end. I’ll never forget singing the alma mater after the game (95 was the first season TGBFTL started doing that, by the way) along with most of the stadium.
That game means something to me personally, as well. I started hanging out with a girl who I had my eye on for a while during the trip and we ended up getting together the night we got back to BR. That was 27 years ago and we’ve been married for 25.

It was cold as shite. They sold draft beer at the game. That helped.
Herb Tyler, Faulk and Kennison went off. Such a great experience.

I had Indy Bowl tix in 1995 but could not go because of work. Gave them to a local bar owner friend and he reciprocated with some free drinks.
Went to the 1996 Indy Bowl vs. Notre Dame. Froze my arse off.
