The new era of college football can be tiring

Not trying to be the grouchy old guy (still in my 20s, but sometimes I feel like one), but some of the new era college football stuff is tiring at times. Seems like we are always worried of someone transferring, can we match someone’s NIL deal, can we get this transfer and still keep this recruit. Kinda miss the simpler days of: recruit, develop, play. I do think it’s a good thing that players have more rights and are able to make money, I just worry for the future of the game at times.

You aren’t alone in that. It was nice when college ball meant you recruited players and most of them stayed 3-4 years. Felt like there was genuine investment from the players in who they were playing for
It’s really just the junior nfl now.
I’m seeing myself off y’all’s lawn now

Burrow was a grad transfer. He could have come to us in the old days too.

I feel ya. I used to follow recruiting religiously but now I just can't find it in me to follow it too much because there's too many moving parts and nothing is guaranteed going forward. Used to be when you got a recruit he was with you for 3 years unless he just didn't pan out and then they'd transfer to a lower school or maybe another P5 if they graduate and still buried on the depth chart. Now recruits can come in and transfer to conference rivals after just one year for any reason whatsoever.
So now I just wait til the rosters are finalized and we ride with whoever we got

2019 was the last real champions!
NIL has hurt it in my eyes as far as players that wanted to go to a certain school but were bought to another. It was all about pride in your school.
NIL, the transfer, portal and 12 team playoff will give alot more schools alot more chances less opt outs and alot more parity.
Its hard to keep up with for sure with 2 signing days and a month of transfer portal in Dec and 2 weeks in May plus opt outs and NIL deals.

This was what I thought about most when I made the post. When I was a teenager following lsu football, I’d watch recruiting shows and follow it very closely. As I’ve gotten older, it’s become insanely hard to follow. Nothing is ever guaranteed and seems like a waste of time until you see the kid on the sideline.

I also thought it was supposed to be a one time transfer
Now you have all these players transferring again
I know their's rules if you graduate but if we are allowing multiple transfers it's gonna be ridiculous
One thing for sure, coaches are earning those paychecks
This could be the one thing that might drive Saban to retirement

I think it will. He cant stack 5 stars 4 deep at every position anymore.

I initially hoped that it wouldn't come to be free agency, and it would just be rewarding players for doing the right thing. Those safeguards weren't put in place so now it is what it is. It's nothing like it was just 5 years ago.

You don’t think this was happening pre nil?

I hear ya but things(new era) have not yet begun to shake themselves out. Its still in flux. What I know for sure is...its not going back only forward.

It has less to do with the NFL and more to do with a chance to play/win. People talk about “the bag” but the bag is everywhere. Kids only get so many years to play this game. If they want to go somewhere where they can play or go somewhere where they have a better chance to win then so be it.
College football was never the amateur utopia/RahRahSchoolFight that people think it was. The players just have more control of their opportunities now

College football has become similar to college basketball. One year and done. The system needs structure like some sort of contract or limit the amount of times a kid can transfer.

Not as tiring as all these Nuss bus threads

The mental gymnastics we do

It is different but not by much.

The transfer thing is the worst part about all this. I can sort of get why the ncaa changed it for Covid but i don’t understand why they didn’t go back to the old rule once it was over. No sport league in the world allows players to just come and go to other teams as they please.
