LSU (Dietzel through Kelly) coaches' records - pre-LSU / at-LSU / post-LSU

"LSU is taking a break from being king maker by hiring a king" - this quote and the idea for this detailed graph came from a thread on the SECRant / Coaching Changes Board
* Y2NC - # of years until 1st national championship
Takeaways -
1. LSU continues to make coaches. The only outliers are pre-LSU: Curley Hallman (had Brett Farve all 3 years) & post-LSU: Nick Saban (no need to discuss)
2. If Paul Dietzel stays, we might be a blue blood
3. If Bill Arnsparger stays, we don't have the 90s (when I went to school)

4. Never hire coaches without any head coaching experience (Mike Archer & Jerry Stovall)
5. Except Saban (the outlier), most LSU coaches haven't gotten head coaching jobs after LSU, and the few that have didn't do nearly as well (Miles, Dinardo, Dietzel)
6. If you take out the outliers (Hallman & Saban), the overall record for LSU head coaches - pre-LSU: 70-101 (40.9%), at-LSU: 457-208-16 (67.1%), post-LSU: 76-124-2 (37.6%)
Updates to the image
- added Toledo year to Saban and updated %
- added Post-LSU column and added Saban (Miami & Alabama) & Miles (Kansas)
- added coaches back to Dietzel & years at LSU
- added Dinardo's XFL record

So our last 3 coaches have a average winning percentage of 74.6% @LSU & we just hired a coach with a 72.9% winning percentage

I think the point is they went up an average of 20 to 25%.

I think you're missing the point. The average winning percentage of the last three coaches BEFORE they got to LSU was 50.9%.
Their winning percentage AT LSU was 74.6%. Brian Kelly COMES IN with a winning percentage of 73.9%.

What did he say that is wrong? He was just pointing out that the current coach is already at that 74% mark. The other coaches were way below that mark prior to coming here and they skyrocketed.
He did say “@LSU” I think y’all are misinterpreting what he means.

Reading comprehension is obviously not your thing. None of those coaches had a 75% winning pct PRE LSU.

Amd Saban didn’t have to coach against Saban. He definitely took the program to new heights.

You may have missed your mean, median, and mode classes in 7th grade.
ETA: You can down vote me, but you can’t average averages. Your point is wrong, and even if right, the last 3 coaches averaged a 75.3% win percent at LSU.

Listen, i'm doing my best at trying not to insult posters, but that was one of the stupidest comments i've ever read. Is your brain incapable of making the connection?

Don’t know who did that graphic but Saban’s win% at Michigan State is wrong. It’s 61.4%

All of y'all are missing the point, which is that it's a stupid graphic. Kelly's winning percentage includes lots of years after he had already built it. Most of his wins came at programs who were naturally competitive against their schedule. All of the others' winning percentages are for the "ladder years" when they were fighting their way up. Of course those will be worse.
If you are comparing Saban to Kelly you should include all of Saban's career. Saban did not have the advantage Kelly had in being at a blueblood for a dozen seasons before taking the LSU job.

What do you idiots not get….it isn’t about the coaches’ record, it is the inability to sustain and the off the field crap that is the problem!!! Would you really want your kid being mentored by O or Miles knowing what both have done off the field (I mean really, as a father, you want those two being looked up to and being their leaders)

Yeah. "@LSU" means while coaching at LSU.
What I was trying to say was that our new coach has the same current winning percentage as our 3 previous coaches did while they were coaching at LSU.
Yes I understand that the point of the graphic was to show that the previous coaches winning % went up drastically when they came to LSU. Again, I am simply pointing out that our new coaches numbers pre-LSU are the same as the 3 previous guys while they were at LSU.

And I didn't say that it was a bad thing. His floor seems to be their ceiling.
