Do any of you think the having PP7 on the opposite side of the field as Mathieu this year contibuted to him having the year he did? With Peterson gone next year, do you guys think that qbs will stay away from him, or is our will our corners and safties be good enough where they will have to throw at him time to time? I'm sure we will still see the blitz packages that we used him in this year, but as a cover man anytime the ball is thrown at him he has a chance to pick it off. Does he have the same type of season that PP7 had this year, quite because he is not thrown at very often?

PP7 everyone contributed with him shutting down a entire side of a field and always having to make the QB to think twice in the back of his head. Ty mat is a beast and is and will be a hell of a player but dont think he will be a shutdown corner or make qbs think twice because of his size, especially on deep balls...out passes or cuts maybe, I actually think he does that a little better than pp7....As far as picks though I think he has a better chance of making the person fumble once they catch it than he has defending the deep ball.

Tyrann played the nickle spot. Mo Claiborn played opposite Peterson.

If anything, QBs are going to stay away from PP and go to the other side. It almost puts more pressure on the other corner.

IMO & IMHO, I think Mo Claiborne and Simon start with Mathieu and Brooks coming in and TM starting at nickle back where he is best. At his size, teams will throw at him regardless. Especially on fade routes near the endzone.

So your saying take your best playmaker off the field in base formations? Some of you guys kill me with this stuff. He will be on the field every down.

We will use Ty mat pretty much the same way we used him all year.....he played it perfectly.......I think we will see Loston at safety most the year.

I'm not saying anything.

Later in the year when Peterson went out, Simon came in to spell him, not TM. TM played nickle 90% of the time he was on the field and Simon played CB instead of Mathieu. What indication do you have that the coaching staff will change that?

Mathieu obviously works better out of the nickle position.

I imagine that Chavis has Mo Claiborne start at one corner and Simon start at the other with Tyrann subing in for Mo Claiborne about 5% of the time and Simon about 35% of the time. If we are in nickle let Tyrann play the nickle positon where he is most effective. The dime package would consist of Claiborne, Simon, Tyrann, Ried, Taylor, Brooks and/or Loston.

So our third linebacker will never see the field according to you?.... He will be the boundary corner in base and maybe move back inside in nickel... We have some guys coming in that can play the same role as he did this year maybe keeping him at boundary corner.

Mo, Simon, loston...corners and safety...Loston becomes one of the most dynamic players and dont wanna say surprise people but does what was expected of him.

Mathieu's role last year was absolutely perfect. He covered, blitzed, provided run support... basically a wrecking ball all over the field. He's such an effective blitzer that I'd hate to lose that element of his game making him a full time starter outside. He's already getting starter snaps... why mess with it?

Dude go back and watch those games. Mathieu replaced Peterson and claiborne unless it was a nickel situation. If that was the case Simon would have started the ULM game.

Yeah no need changing anything with Ty matt, blitz specialist and always attacking the ball...Nickel position and special teams kick offs for sure.

When we played him at corner a few times he is so competitive and always attacking that he got beat a couple times trying to make the play

At the end of the season it was Simon that replaced mo clai or pp..Ty mat got beat ( lost his footing ) on a couple plays and they put him back..

Mo claiborne is our best true cornerback

Ty mat is the best all around secondary player...as far as attacking and team feeding off of him.

Have u read anything that our d-coordinator head coach pp7 has said about this kid. They think the world of him and not just as a blitzer but as a true cornerback.Hey news flash u don't have to be in nickel to blitz. As much as he plays he is going to get beat. Every corner does.

Yeah chavis miles and pp haev said everything great about him but they've never said anything about being a true corner. He will be one of the best on our defense but he wont be a shutdown corner

Every corner does get beat but he is too impatient right now to be a corner especially when he lacks in size he cant do that...pp7 had the same problem but made up for it with size

Having PP on oneside of the field in man to man allowed Mathieu to blitz from his nickel position or off the slot receiver.

So yes Peterson had everything to do with Mathieu being put in position to make plays.

However Mathieu gets all the credit for actually making the plays when he had the opportunity.

You often see DB's get open shots at QB's and get a little excited and out of control and whiff on the tackle. Mathieu always seemed to stay under control and make his shot count.
