Drunk, how would you view the SEC grabbing VA Tech?

Isn't that basically completely off the board now with the ACC expanding?

not really, A&M had an original 30 mil buyout they voted for last year and that didnt stop them. A lot less likely now though thats for sure.

I don't think so. 20 million buyout is nothing.

Has anyone heard if there's a mutual interest from VT?

I'd love to see:

if each school raised ticket prices by $3 per game, you could raise $20 million in one season.

Assumes an average stadium capacity of 70,000, 7 home games and 14 teams.

For the pure sake of keeping the division intact I would prefer this route. If we're going to 16 they might as well add them both b/c who else are you going to add?

renegotiating the SEC tv contracts is expected to increase the revenue by $150 to $200 million per year for 14 teams.

WVU also sits in a state with less then 2 million people. When the SEC creates a network this is very important. The B1G get $.85 for subscribers that live in a state with a current B1G school and only $.15 for those in states without.

With the B1G network being on most cable packages now and on all sat. packages this is an ectremely important aspect that is being overlooked.

TheDoc I wish that you would respond to my other thread
This gets overlooked by way too many people. Why is the SEC so excited about adding A&M? Cable markets. Don't have the cable channel yet, but it's coming. When it does, the value of Missouri over West Virginia will be clear. The ONLY problem with Missouri is that they made eyes at the Big Ten first.

VT's rise came when they went to the ACC. WVU in the SEC will own recruiting in md., Va., basically hurting VT, Uva(though they suck already), and md.

WVU will also be able to better recruit border states Pa and Ohio as an SEC member. Being in the best football conference will boost WVU's recruiting. At the expense of the ACC.

In time WVU will have a larger share of the DC market(they already have Pittsburgh). VT commands a lot of the DC market now, but WVU in the SEC will reverse that in a short period of time.

WVU owns VT in its series with them, though VT won 2 of the last 4. But VT ended the series and never faced Pat White as a qb.When recruiting tilts to WVU's advantage, WVU will go back to owning the Hokies. And that will capture the DC market. Md, the team closest to the DC market, WVU already out recruits in its backyard even being in the BE.

Mizzou is a good school too, however. If the SEC goes to 16, i dont see how it cant take both.

Before they increased the buyout- Weaver,Va Tech's AD, said that the SEC would present travel issuses and they are happy they are in the ACC which to them is a bus league. And if the SEC offered he would politely decline

I think VaTech is still far and away the best option. No one knows anything for sure if they are a possibility or not, but they would be the best get IMO.

With Syracuse and Pittsburgh coming (for starters), somebody ought to check with this guy and see if he still thinks the ACC is a bus league. They should also ask him if he thinks the ACC has any committment to football whatsoever.
