UA is a relatively small school from a small state. I think the 8-9 million per year they get now is about the most they'll ever see. Which is plenty if you ask me, considering all the other money they get.
One thing that confuses everyone is that the 8-9 million you've seen reported for Alabama's "third tier rights" includes more than the rights for untelevised games. The "third tier rights" deals that you see discussed in the media (usually with either IMG or Learfield) include radio, internet, in-game advertising, corporate sponsorship, and other revenue streams. So, if the SEC forms a network to package the TV rights component of what is referred to as "third tier rights," like the Big Ten and Pac 12 have done, Alabama (and the rest of the SEC) would have to rework deals with their 3rd tier rights holders (meaning they would get a little bit less on their current deals), but, the money lost from that conference adjustment would probably only be a small fraction of what they would make from the SEC network ($10 million wouldn't be out of line).

Doubt Bama initially, just due to the multiple markets it would have to span, but UF or LSU are much much more likely..

I am a realist, I dont think Mizzou, or even aTm, would have been considered for expansion in the SEC if it were not for the future conference network.

Everything I have read leads me to believe this expansion has been fueled by the establishment of a conference network. The leaked financial report that came out of Columbia MO in regards to an SEC move most definitely included a conference network in its estimates for future revenue for Mizzou.

I would bet top dollar that backroom channeled discussions are already taking place for that network with broadcasters and that it will heat up moving into next year with a network launch in '13-'14 season.

Making all of our Institutions a shite load of $$$$$$$$!

Apparently Texas doesn't have the appeal of Texas either.[/QUOTE]

I walked through the local walmart today, and there were about 20 endcaps with longhorn pillows and other longhorn junk. Abouth 1/5th of those also had some cowboys stuff.

NO other school was represented.

This is the way of things in texas.. They have a massive following of fair weather fans.

Doubtful. Not only has Texas shown what would happen, but the SEC is a brand. It's stability will command more money once the contracts are renegotiated.

The LHN payoff was just that, a payoff. ESPN is basically taking a loss so that they could prevent a Big12 network from ever forming and college football in the entire western half of the US falling into the hands of Fox sports and not them. This was in reaction to the planned 16 team PAC expansion and as you have seen, it effectively killed it.

Even if Alabama takes the deal, a 14-team SEC will likely still have enough third-tier content to form an SEC Network... I even wonder if there is enough left over for a 4th tier of sports rights. I don't think ESPN will offer huge bucks again unless it prevents them from having to bid on a conference network, which in this case I don't think it will.

A&M could stand to gain more for their portion of revenue from an SEC Network than what Austin gets out of the LHN.

For sure the population base in Alabama is not Texas. However, and not knowing the ratings, Alabama does essentially have a national XM radio broadcast in Paul finebaum that is doing well.
