And it definitely won't be from anyone wearing red, white, and blue, as will be obvious come Sept. 4th when we run a gang train on your little Ponies at Kyle Field.

Haha. We call ourselves Former Students, not alumni.

It started as you're never a "former Aggie, only a former student". Not sure when the word alumni was brought into it

Hell no!

It's a great tradition in college football!

Why does it have to be an either or thing? Add female Yell Leaders for starters. I mean c'mon, it's the 21st fricken century for god's sake.

Maybe some additional coed "Spirit Squads" as well around the sidelines, after everyone quiets down and gets used to the newfangled notion of attractive females in skimpy outfits cheering for your school.

I can live with that.

And don't get rid of yell leaders. Why do we need cheerleaders? For the girls? If it's eye-candy everyone is after, just hire about 20-30 strippers to dance on some polls the whole game, al a miller lite girls at Gerry World.

Geauxld, Yell Leaders are elected and nobody is excluded from running. But Corps members almost always win and a girl has never been elected though some have tried.

And I agree we should have a spirit squad and keep the Yell Leaders. But, the purist think the TV cameras will focus on the pretty girls and ignore the Yell Leaders. IDGAF, as long as the Yell Leaders are leading the students to keep the atmosphere at the games, I don't care if the TV cameras show pretty girls. I actually prefer it.

TBH, I have season tickets and I never notice cheerleaders at any football game. I'm watching the game, the big screen, or talking to a buddy

You can never be rid of yell leaders. You can only hope to contain them.

Seriously, if eye-candy is the goal, install some platforms and bring in the Miller Lite Girls. Cheerleaders are hot, but they suck at the job of "leading cheers." They are also not the best at being eye-candy. Most are pretty flat-chested and boyishly athletic. Not saying I would kick em out of bed or anything, but cheerleaders are not the best for either role (arse or crowd noise).

Your experience with cheerleaders of the female variety has been limited, so I'll cut you some slack here.

I think he means don't get gymnastic style cheerleaders, get pretty girls with pom poms who do some dance routines, and leave all the "stunts" alone. (ala USC and UCLA girls)

I pity you that your women are so ugly that you believe this. You'll be singing a different tune after a few away games in the SEC.

Im with you , the Yell leaders at Texas A&M is definitely tradition. I remember back in the seventies when I saw the Tigers play the Aggies for the first time. Always thought it was funny but they got the corps stirred up.

Sounds like this tradition was started by some people who dropped or failed out or something, so they wouldn't sound different from those who graduated

BigKat--Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but doesn't the "former student" tradition relate to those Aggies who went off to war and didn't come home to finish their studies, thus the term was chosen so they would always be a part of the Aggie family?
