UVA would never every join the SEC. They believe that they are above it. They consider themselves mid atlantic, not Southeastern.

The question must be, "why will VaTech never join the second?" If UVa is the answer.

only if the questions is - name a worthless school that adds absolutely nothing to the best athletics conference in the nation.

- no fan base (play in half-empty stadiums/arenas, travel poorly)
- pathetic football/basketball programs
- southern in location only (most students come from ny/nj)
- different culture (very liberal and prefer wine/cheese over beer/bbq)
- adds no new markets (virginia is a hokie state and not even alums care about the cavs)
- already have two ugly orange/blue schools in the sec, way beyond the quota

A shame, too. They were Ole Miss before Ole Miss. And they actually had the pedigree.

UVA would be awesome in the SEC, but they would pick the big ten over the SEC.

UVA and Maryland to the Big Ten is what I expect to be the Big Ten's next move. MD adjoins PA, so Penn State would be happy about that, and two ACC schools would appease the academic snobs in the Big Ten. The potential to tap into the DC/Balt market, and move south somewhat, would be highly attractive as well. It would result in the ACC bascially being split in half.

UVA would never leave the ACC. They along with UNC and Duke are central to the ACC.
