That's because they are about the contract.
They are able to change the contract.
The whole point of your thread here, friend.

my thread was about having a new deal with ESPN/CBS secured BEFORE expansion talk

Apparently a new member/s would allow SEC to renegotiate, but that doesn't mean that there is a deal in place already.
According to Staples of CNNSI Slive last year was quoted as saying.
While not a guaranteed increase, if the SEC can point at the Pac-12, and Big 12 deals as baselines hard to believe they can't somehow leverage more money out of the deal

A change in membership would allow the SEC to renegotiate, commissioner Mike Slive said when asked about the topic in June 2010. "Most of our contracts have confidentiality clauses, so I'll answer this somewhat indirectly," Slive said. "It is not unusual in these kinds of contracts for there to be a provision that if the composition of the league changes, there's an opportunity to sit down and talk about that with our television partner."

god damn slow, did you smoke or something today? you have been acting like a ranter all day. of course there isnt a contract already in place. what kind of retarded as question is that? do you think we are gonna get less money then the other conferences that have bigger contracts? quit being stupid today.
and a big part of this is wanting to start a full fledged SEC network along with renegotiating the CBS and ESPN contracts.
The sec office feels that the current SEC network is nothing more then Jefferson Pilot repackaged.

i just think assumptions like this are premature and kind of silly at this juncture
i think they're just bought, hook/line/sinker from pro-expansion people
i just don't think expansion is this glorious thing without faults or issues. even if it did lead to us creating a cable network, it doesn't guarantee that we'll end up ahead in the end
typically the SEC has been the innovator in CFB, and in that role we've been awesome. but now we're following, and i don't know if that shoe will fit

it's not like adding TAMU for a few games a year will make our conference more valuable for the networks
You're not serious are you? Texas is the second most populated state in the entire US and College Station is located about an hour from Houston and about 2 from San Antonio.
We would literally have a team in every southern/southeastern state in the US with the exception of North Carolina.

and how does this change the fact that TAMU will only give a few more ESPN/CBS games per year?
the only thing that matters with the current setup for the SEC is # of viewers. that's why FSU is a better option than Missouri

You can't really be this stupid.
More games = more viewers.
More viewers = More Ad money.
Please tell me you are still in high school.
1. LeBron Fanboy
2. Can't understand simple business concepts.
What's next? You going to believe that strippers like you?

and this means we have to select fan bases that will watch. TAMU is one of these. FSU is one of these. Missouri/UL are not
people are getting caught up in geographical markets, when that doesn't affect the current SEC model

Slow, there could be more televised games as a result of expansion. More double-headers on CBS, for example.

possibly, but that would conflict with the ESPN schedule, at the same time. i doubt ESPN would be happy with losing the national interest for those games.
i dunno i'm just leery of our leverage right now, esp with the big10 re-upping with ESPN and ESPN making a major play for the pac12 within the past year.

downside would be more early afternoon games...

that could work, theoretically
i wonder if a non-cable network would ever try a thursday night game. THAT would be interesting

The frick?
We would want TAMU because they give us access to the Houston and San Antonio markets.

Probably because you pay $50 for a $20 lap dance.
The Slow in your screen name is aptly placed.

all 144 games are coming on ESPN or CBS?

what does this do if nobody watches?
why not get northwestern for the chicago market while we're at it?

Are you seriously this dense?
TAMU would bring more of their own games to our broadcasts. frick, how stupid can you be?

i'm breaking it down b/c the point went over your head
we have 1-2 ESPN night games and 1 CBS day game per saturday. we get 1 CBS night game. that MAY be renegotiated, but as of now, there are a finite number of games

which means 1 less national broadcast with our current lineup

Other issues facing Slive and the SEC include.
• The SEC's groundbreaking 15-year, $2.25 billion TV deal with ESPN -- not to mention a $55 million-a-year pact with CBS -- signed in 2008 has been overtaken. The Pac-12's new 12-year deal with Fox and ESPN is worth about $3 billion, which might prompt a renegotiation for the SEC.
"Obviously when we did our deal we set the pace, and in our contract we have a concept called look-ins," Slive said. "At periodic points during the life of the contract, we can sit down with ESPN and take a look-in and look at the status of television, technology, all aspects of television, and at that point make adjustments that the parties agree are appropriate to make sure that everything that we intended to achieve with the contracts would in fact be available to us."

It's really not that hard of a concept to grasp. The Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth markets alone add millions of viewers to not only A&M SEC games, but other SEC games as well, as those same A&M fans will be more interested in watching other SEC games, as opposed to Big 12 games which are of more interest to us currently.
To make it real simple for you... you will still get all the people that watch now, plus millions more in Texas watching. That's alot of new money.
