So....UT, A&M, OU plus 1 to the SEC, possibly? Man, what a conference! Who would be the 4th? Tech? OSU? Miami? Holy crap, just give the winner of the conference the MNC.

I hope the SEC stays put unless both the Big 10 and the Pac 10 go to 16 teams.

Tech is worse than Baylor. Screw them. They add nothing.

The dream for the SEC is probably adding A&M, Texas, and OU. Then add Clemson because, well, they kind've belong, but you could also offer Virginia Tech instead. Then with 3 new western teams, you go to 7 school divisions, allowing you to shift the Alabama schools east.

Regarding the Tech comment, you're right. Tech's hopes of tagging along is a pipe dream at best. West Texas isn't appealing to anyone other than the Mountain West or Conference-USA at this point. They're already being ridiculed by the Pac-10 for even assuming they had a chance of getting in. Academically, Tech is nowhere close to the expectations of Pac-10 institutions.

VA Tech will join before Clemson because they add a new market for television. Clemson essentially offers nothing to the conference. I agree, Clemson belongs, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll get in.

If the four schools I mentioned in my first post are added, this is what the proposed conference realignment would look like:

East:
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Alabama
Auburn

West:
LSU
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas A&M

This scenario works out better in the long run. Arkansas renews old rivalries on an annual basis with Texas and Texas A&M, the Iron Bowl remains, A&M/UT, OSU/OU, LSU/Arkansas, the Egg Bowl, UF/UGA, UF/Tennessee, Tennessee/Vandy, Tennessee/Kentucky, UGA/Tennessee, etc...

All of the traditional rivalries do not take a hit, and you add several others.

Yeah, I think OU tags along with Texas and OSU tags along with OU. The only one with any degree of autonomy is A&M, and that's questionable.

Right. All of this is merely speculative at best. I just go to this place called Saint's Pub & Patio, and there are a ton of UT, OSU, and OU alumni and fans that go there. Every weekend, there is a watch party for all of those teams. LSU's alumni and fan chapter in KC also has watch parties there every weekend, and they also push the owners to televise baseball games and event Saints games.

So, this is essentially where I get most of my information. Not from some 20-something year old college student or recent grad, but from alums that still have connections with the school and actually contribute to the alumni association and athletic departments.

A&M really doesn't have a huge chapter up here, aside from the folks at the KU School of Engineering, which I'm about to withdraw from because the Dean--being an A&M alum with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering--is dumping the majority of the funds into the ME program. frick the EE majors.

I would love UT to join. They will bring a rival and bring quality teams in football basketball and baseball. Hate them or not from a sports stand spoint it would be big.

Ole Miss: fricked when the hired Nutt

Miss. State: Needs to revive the baseball program, keep doing well in basketball, and just hope they can make the Music City Bowl from time to time.

Vanderbilt: They'd rather study anyway.

Kentucky: Basketball will certainly be fun to watch, but football may take a huge hit. The Rust Belt is hurting just as bad in number of recruits as they are in industrial jobs, so recruiting that region and competing with Big Ten schools might frick them entirely.

A&M and UT have been conjoined twins for over a hundred years. I don't see that changing.

This scenario, in my opinion, is the best for the SEC.

The Big XII is about to cease to exist. The NCAA is trying to cut down on travel costs, so this makes the most sense from a financial standpoint.

From a competitive standpoint, adding those four schools strengthens the conference to the point where no other conference can hold a candle to them. The Pac-10 is just out for money. The Big Ten is trying to keep up with the joneses and get a championship game going. The ACC is oblivious to what's going on, and the Big East is saying is scared shitless.

I would love to see this conference happen....wow!

Like I've said before, adding schools in the East does NOTHING for the SEC. SEC already has considerable market share in the South East. Think about it....FSU, nope, Clemson...ha! The only team in the east the SEC should consider would be a UNC.

damn...so now the PAC 10 has 12. I hope they don't pick up Texas and Texas A&M. They would be awesome for the SEC west.

UT is not going to move to the SEC or the Big 10. No incentive for them to move to a conference where they aren't the clear-cut alpha dog.

I don't like the idea of LSU not being in the same division as Bama and Auburn. That are 2 of the best games of the year.

They're not the "clear-cut alpha dog" in the Big XII, so it makes no difference.

It's one giant conglomeration that will inevitably lead to the downfall of major college football.
