TCU also had a rough few decades in football from about 1960 to 1997,

That is four decades. I'd say that counts for more than a few. TCU has been good in a bad conference but honestly who really cares about TCU.

2 = a couple
3-4 = a few
5 and up = several

But seriously, what a stupid fricking thing to try to make a point of contention about.

And TCU has just as many people living within a 45 minute drive as there are in your entire state. Give them some decent teams to play every week and the SEC will own 90% of the DMA, especially if OU and UT end up in east or west coast conferences. TCU has committed the money to succeeding and has done so at the highest level ever achieved by a non-BCS school in the BCS era, and has had more success in the BCS era than all but about a dozen schools (if that).

TCU's most recent budget was listed at 50.8 million for 2008 and 2009, and that came with just 2 million coming in from the Mountain West Conference TV contract. Tack another 15M from TV contracts onto that, and TCU is in the middle of the pack in the SEC... that's assuming they get no additional revenue from bowl games (won't be the case), ticket sales (won't be the case), merchandise sales (won't be the case), and donor funds (won't be the case).

FWIW- Useless nice to know information - 1st Sugar Bowl matched TCU & Tulane - no, despite what some may think, I was NOT there

Yes, looks like ACC holds together. So scratch off VT and FSU.

That leaves Mizzou and WVU. Mizzou is sitting in the catbird seat. B1G, PAC, and SEC appear to want them.

So, no I do not think it's out of realm of possibilities for TCU to be considered.

I agree with you Below are some of my thought for what it is worth -- Which is not much.

There are some good choices in the ACC but not sure anybody wants to cough up the $20 million. So assuming the $20 million figure keeps all the ACC members in place who are the possibilities?
Assuming A&M is already a member --

Texas - Not a good fit because of their need to control and be a dominate member.

Oklahoma - Probably going to the Pac 12 but would like to have them

Oklahoma St. - Will follow Oklahoma

Texas Tech - Will go/stay with Texas

Missouri- Seems to me a better fit with the Big 10 but may be best option available

Kansas - Kansas and Kentucky in the same league - but seems more like a Big 10 team

West Virginia - Seems to be a reasonable choice

East Carolina/SMU - Does not seem to be SEC ready

Louisville/Cincinnati/Memphis - No (How can you say beneath SEC caliber in a nice way)

TCU - Could be a possibility.

South Florida - Maybe (Florida may not like this very much)

Central Florida/FIU - Not if South Florida is considered and probably not anyway

Southern Mississippi/Troy - No need for a 3rd. team in one state

Baylor/Rice/Houston - Nice thought but probably not able to compete

Notre Dame - I would like this but I think they have a lot in common with Texas.

ULL/ULM/La Tech/Ark St. - Got to be joking.

Boise St/BYU - Makes a nice skiing vacation every other year - can't think of a good reason

If we feel the need to go to a Super Conference with 16 teams (or more) will we any better off than we are today. I think it would be great if we got Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. and West Virginia however Missouri, TCU, West Virginia and South Florida may be the best choices available. I'm sure I forgot some team that would make a good addition.

In any case

TCU won't open up the DFW market by that much more, especially with A&M already in the fold.

You're close. Tulane vs Temple was the 1st. TCU vs LSU was the 2nd. TCU vs Carnegie Tech was the 5th. I've got programs from all three.

Really, why mention a team that has 0% chance of getting in the SEC?

You have no clue about what you're talking about, at least relative to DFW. I live in FW and this place is rampant with UT, A&Mm Tech and OU alums and fans, as well as LSU having an extremely large alumni association because of the oil and gas industry and obvious job opportunities for recent graduates.

To show how little I want TCU. Though I drastically prefer either of them to Tech.

They've been terrible for the entire modern era of college football except "a few" years.

with OU and UT going west the SEC pickings are slim.

i would completely get behind TCU in the SEC. think vanderbilt with lesser academics and better athletics.

plus tcu, along with tamu, goes a long way to shoring up the huge DFW media market (especially if UT and tech head west).

Honestly, Mizzou and ECU would be better choices.

Mizzou is far better in merchandise sales and gives you the St. Louis and KC markets. ECU is about equal in merchandise and gives you a new market.

TCU does nothing. Aggies already give you dallas and if you want a team that has no following, then might as well pick a state you're not already in.

8 top 25 finishes in 11 years seem to disagree with you. So do 7 seasons with 10+ wins in the past 9. I will concede that other than the past few (3) seasons, we haven't finished ranked in the top 7 three years running or made two BCS bowls in a row. We also hadn't had the third longest active poll streak until now (Bama has the longest currently... Congrats on that).

TCU has feasted on teams in a bad conference. They are University of Houston north. They had almost 4 decades of being bad. They have no following, even in Dallas. They couldn't even get in the Big 12 over Baylor and TTU. They aren't even a blip in the state and they're even more meaningless nationally.

what was Florida before Spurrier was their coach? Pretty sure they hadn't won a conference title before he arrived. I don't think the prerequisite for entry into the SEC should be historical success...
