This is just what I am hearing,so take it as such.
UNC will be willing to let NC State walk and The Legs. in Virgina would be willing to let Va. Tech walk to the SEC.
The catch would be if that does happen, UNC-Chapel Hill along with Duke, Virginia and Maryland would walk to the Big Ten. I am hearing that the Big Ten doesn't want Mizzou at all, and is done with ND and willing to move forward to 16 if those 4 would apply. Apparently OU, Okie Lite, Kansas and Mizzou talked to the Big Ten last week, and the Big Ten said don't even apply.
Again, just a rumor, but a interesting rumor.

Would be the death of the ACC. Not sure I see it happening.
Poor Mizzou, Kansas & Big 12.

No because eventually, they will join the Big 10 when they expand again.

Holy frick.
Duke, UNC, Maryland, Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Wisconsin in the same basketball conference?

As much as I wish that were true, as long as the pussy Irish have the knob-gobblers at NBC shoving money in their g-string, there will be a line of suitors ate the door begging for ND to shite all over them (see Big East).

So now we're up to 15 teams. Any word on #16 or does it stop there?
BTW you can make a 15-team conference work, and still play every team once over a 4-year period. Here's how:
1. The SEC is divided into three, five-team divisions:
West: A&M, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State
Central: Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Tenn, Vandy
East: Florida, Georgia, NC State, S Car, VaTech
2. Each team plays its divisional rivals once a year (for LSU, one game with A&M, Arky, Ole Miss, and Miss State)
3. Each team is assigned two permanent rivals, one from each division (for LSU, I would pick Florida and Auburn)
4. Each team then plays one additional team from each of the other divisions, the teams are rotated every year, but to make it somewhat fair when the rotation comes back in four years, the home and away teams are reversed, so over eight years everybody visits once.
5. This leaves three OOC matchups, for a total of 11 regular season games.
6. The winners from each division plus the best second-place team (based on conference record) advance to playoffs. If second-place teams are tied, use head-to-head, then SOS or poll ranking. The second-place team gets the top seeded division winner (even if in its same division, unlike MLB).

while that sounds great, they're not going to do a playoff within conference and then go to a bcs bowl or a playoff for NCAA.
if you wanted to use that same format I think you'd have to say the 2 with the best record go head to head in the SEC championship and the next 2 duke it up for 3rd place and a nice bowl.

For the 11,642,545th time, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE 16 TEAMS FOR A SUPER CONFERENCE!!!!!! Simply add Virginia Tech to the East along with A&M to the West and be done with expansion. All each conference team will have to do at that point is simply replace 1 non-conference game with the extra conference game. You add new markets and are able to increase the TV fairly dramatically. That's the best case scenario short of not expanding at all.

not really
more conference games = a lower ratio of bowl eligible SEC teams

yea, but dont most teams lose money by going to lower tier bowl games anyway? maybe the increased TV revenue from the extra conference games is worth it to the conference as a whole, vs the two more teams no going to a bowl game
