people, recruiting is not an issue. fsu and the sec schools have already proven that they can all recruit perfectly fine against each other as it is. adding fsu isn't going to change things significantly. fsu will still get their players and the current sec schools will continue to get theirs.

agree obviously - FSU recruits at an A+ level when they have the right coach in place.

SEC teams like Florida will recruit with them head to head on the basis of which team has more opportunity at the position of interest and which team has the more charismatic coach in place.

saying that fsu adds nothing is just plain ignorant. they would add several things, most importantly, one of the best athletic programs in the country.

I really don't know how some people can continue to pretend FSU doesn't bring television viewers. Florida and FSU are in the same state - that hardly means they bring the same viewers. They do not - in the same way Jets fans and Giants fans are different television viewers.

Think they are the same thing? If so then you can go into a Jets bar and change the station to a Giants game. I'll wait for you outside.

it ridiculous to complain about "making the conference tougher."

Agree - and if we add two more teams the last four programs added to the SEC would be Arkansas, South Carolina, A&M, and FSU. Of those only FSU is a legitimate powerhouse, Arkansas is a nice program and A&M is a sleeping giant that may never wake

Adding one powerhouse and two middle tier programs out of four schools seems like a very modest change (and perhaps even a dilution) when the conference already had Florida, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and Auburn

Yea we don't want any schools with bad blood (like bama & aub). That would just hurt the conference, oh wait, didn't they win the last 2 NC's??

Not to mention the fact that it would mean them playing each other every year.

Wait...

FSU to the SEC is a positive for Florida. Both schools already recruit an an elite level and they already play each other. Florida should love the idea of FSU joining the SEC and having 8 to 10 wins every year instead of going 11-1 or 12-0 in the ACC every year like they are about to. If you have to battle them in recruiting and on the field every year, at least make them play you on an even surface.

agreed. Don't think UF wants them to have the SEC $$$$ though. There is also a lot of bad blood between the 2 schools.

I'm all for FSU joining the SEC, in case there is any confusion. I just believe they may have more than just Florida opposed to them coming in.

Perhaps a compromise could be effected that would allow FSU to join...like putting FSU in the West, instead of the east.

Advantages for SEC Schools for Adding FSU:

1. More TV $$$$.
2. Florida's SOS can actually go down, one less big time OOC Opponent.
3. Eliminates the Anti-SEC void in North Florida, Southern Alabama and makes the region tighter. Only legitimate (Bowls more than not) football schools in SEC Footprint are Clemson and Georgia Tech.
4. Adds a member in the east that is a relatively short travel for all schools except Vandy/Kentucky.

Disadvantages for SEC Schools:

1. Eliminates the "SEC Card" for 1. Florida, 2. Georgia, 3. Alabama, 4. Auburn 5. LSU when recruiting against head-to-head (in that order)against FSU.
2. Makes the SEC East Harder to win for the current SEC East members.
3. Takes a school who's fanbase is different from the rest and integrates tham in the conference.

Florida, Georgia, Bammer and Auburn should vote against them and block them.

Why? Would it not be easier to sell a 14-0 season in the ACC to recruits rather than a 8-4, 9-3 season in the SEC? If they're going to recruit against us regardless, at least let them have to face us on the field as well.

FSU brings nothing to the SEC. Poor academics. No new TV viewers. Can't sell out their stadium except UF and Miami games. Poor fanbase. FSU will just be another welfare school in the SEC. Anyone who says it would hurt Florida is nuts. We play them every year and recruit the same players. FSU in the SEC would only help Florida. They will have to play a tougher schedule each week.

The poll is not far off, I think in reality it is closer to 40% UF. Some of those other numbers are a little questionable

depends on how good each team is doing...its amazing the amount of FSU paraphernalia I have seen the last year that was missing the first 6 that I lived here.

FSU to the SEC needs to happen.

are you kidding me? there's only about 5 or 6 non SEC schools whose fanbase really "fits" in the SEC.

Texas A&M is one of them

As is FSU

then there's a huge dropoff before a few more (clemson maybe, WV, VT)

How does a fanbase fit the SEC?

I don't think FSU wants any part of the SEC. I think they are happy beating up on basketball schools.

I have a feeling that playing games in Tallahassee against programs like UGA, Bama, LSU, etc. would be much more appealing than games against Duke, Wake Forest, GT, etc.

I think after a while if SEC teams were playing teams like Wake, NC State, etc. at home very couple of years you might see attandance drop. Part of what drives SEC attendance is the quality matchups on the field.

I heard there was bad blood, or something.

I can't reveal my sources, but that's what I heard. Or something.

Bad blood.

If Miami doesn't get the death penalty, honestly I think they are a better fit for the SEC than FSU. But personally if I could pick any school, I would go with UNC. But the Tobacco Road schools aren't going anywhere.

I think this is over played. FSU already competes with Florida for recruits IMO. They had huge success in the 90's, national audience and plenty of TV exposure.

Only thing I can think of is that Florida won't be able to tell recruits that if they want to play in the best conference AND stay in the state of Florida, then they HAVE to come to UF.
