Texas A&M did have discussions with Slive for the Texas TV market. To offset that addition on the West and give the East an additional team, Slive spoke with Va Tech. These were merely talks to gauge interest.

Through those discussions, we have made an offer to Texas to join A&M. But that has come with some discussions. Texas wants Alabama and Auburn moved to the East Division. It also wants it's own Network which is fine with the SEC for all games not carried by a Major Contracted Network. This would be much like Tigervision for us. The caveat is they would be able to play all sports on it. If Texas goes to the Pac 10, they lose the network.

Now comes the tricky part, there is a state-run, multi-billion dollar mineral rights endowment for both Texas and Texas A&M called the Permanent University Fund, which was threatened by lawmakers the last time realignment happened (when the Big 12 was formed) if the two schools did something without Texas Tech or Baylor. The problem is now that Colorado has taken a Pac 10 invite, that puts Baylor out and this is already a problem with the Fund. If Baylor can't get in the Pac 10, then they would have to pull the fund and everyone can go wherever.

Also, Texas A&M is 16 million dollars in debt in the Athletic Department. The Pac10 had close to 60 million in 2009. The SEC just split 209 million between 12 schools. You do the math.

Oklahoma has petitioned the Slive to join. The President of Oklahoma stated they will do what Texas does. I don't know if this is a hint or statement.

What we know at this moment is Texas and A&M are making a last ditch effort to keep the Big 12 together by adding other schools from Texas like TCU and running mock projections to see if it is feasible.

At this moment, Slive has offered a very lucrative deal to the 2 from Texas that gets 1 out of debt and allows the other to get it's network and make it's money. If Oklahoma doesn't feel it will be added as a 3rd wheel, you can expect a big push from all 3 to hold the Big 12 together. The Pac 10 is an option but it doesn't help A&M's debt problem or Texas TV dreams. The only option there is the SEC.

Now pick your conference and let's move on.

If the pac (whatever) ends up getting 26 mill a year I think that 16 in debt shrinks....doesn't it?

shitty tv deal and some schools (wsu, osu to name 2) aren't helping.......new tv deal would pay more than what the sec is currently...supposedly.

my understanding is that this is a pot shared by all public schools in Texas, and that it stays in place no matter what happens..

so why do they keep mentioning this? They make it seem like they can take it away.

It's a misunderstanding of how the PUF was threatened last time. Then-Governor Ann Richards threatened to change the way it was allocated to Texas and Texas A&M.

It has no sway in the decision this time because Baylor's political clout is nearly non-existant now.

The PUF will continue to exist and continue to disperse funds as before, regardless of Baylor.

To add: UT, A&M and TT knew they needed a fourth team to go with them to the Big 8. The options all sucked at the time. SMU, TCU, Rice or Baylor. They chose Baylor in order not to even test Richards political power.

They should just form a Texas Conference. I always joke with my Texas cousins that all UT plays for is the Texas state championship every year.

No, I don't really think there should be a Texas Conference.

Slive said he would do this if UT and TAMU join us. OU would then follow them and a 4th team would be added.

Texaswill, do you know if Baylor is a private school? Also, where did Ann Richards go to school? Finally, was she ever governor of Texas giving her control over things?

A team from the East: VT, FSU, Clemson, or GT and someone would have to slide over to the SECW.

OU, Texas, TAMU, LSU, Arkansas, MSU, OM and Vandy?

..or do we add Texas, TAMU, OU and Missouri along with shipping Alabama and AU to the SECE?
