OU blew their wad
They got all excited and then once spurned at the altar made statements: "well, we will stay now but only if..."
It's a total bluff and Texas is calling them on it.
OU has zero leverage. They're stuck in the Big 12. There was no reason for Texas to lose their leverage and position to join the Pac 12 and appease OU. Texas holds the marbles...Texas does what it wants.

its $300M over 20 years, so $15M more a year.
Also I'd imagine it would be dependant on how it does, if not enough providers pick it up, will ESPN renew in 20 years?
Not ONLY is this part true, but the part that everyone glosses over is that Kansas sells their tier 3 rights to basketball for like $9-10 million a year and has been for awhile now.

Out of all this, I've lost the most respect for OU.

So how in the hell will there be equal revenue sharing in the Big 12 when Texas will always be making $300 million more than anyone else in the conference?
the same way the SEC is equal?

Compared to their position 1 year ago, I like that OU served notice to Texas that they will not just step in line with the Horns anymore.

I was saying that I think the Big 12 is going to merge with the Big East, but I meant they were going to absorb the Big East castoffs.
What if they go the other way around?
OU, OSU, Tech, Baylor, Kansas, KSU, ISU, and Mizzou (the 8 non-Texas Big 12 schools) join the 7 remaining Big East schools. That gives you 15. Offer Texas a slot if they give up the LHN in its current form. If they say no, offer Boise.
16-team super conference Big East. They keep the autobid and rid themselves of the Texas problem. It's a risky move, and would require co-ordination, but OU et al still have options.

or leave Baylor with Texas and you have 14 teams. If you make Baylor getting in conditional on Texas then that will give a lot of people reasons to push Texas...

Baylor did the friggin heavy lifting for Iowa St and Kansas St when A&M bolted, and took all of the media heat for them. They shouldn't then turn around and screw them. The little guys in the Big 12 owe Baylor, if they make it to a BCS conference.

"If somebody thinks something is wrong with our network, and thinks it’s hurting the conference, we would absolutely address it."
And A&M left because of why?
We even got the NCAA to outlaw HS recruit games so they turned around the next day and said they would only put HS "highlights" on it.
I had very little respect for them before all of this and now they are making those stuck with them eat cow pies with shiet like this. They have been totally blind to sharing anything and are an untrustworthy, arrogant "partner". Thank God we're gone.

[Iverson voice]We're talking about tier 3 rights, man. We're not talking about tier 1 or 2. We're talking about 2 games a year and women's volleyball![/Iverson voice]

I agree with your assessment about Baylor.
I also think Texas is getting EXACTLY what it wants right now.
Texas wanted less competition. They have been happy to see Nebraska, Colorado, and A&M leave. Dodds doesn't want quality or quantity. He wants the easiest path possible to the MNC game. I think they'd be okay with OU leaving, too. Then the remaining schools would do whatever UT said to remain.

Where are they going to go? The SEC won't take them if they are tied to OK State, which they are.
I'd take both in a heartbeat, if I was Slive. That's a natural fit in both cases. Add in WVU as the 16th, and good to go.

I think this is a pretty accurate summation from CFN:
quote:
The Pac-12 wants Texas, but Texas isn’t quite sure what it wants to do. There isn’t one single person who could greenlight Texas switching conferences. This is political, this is provincial, and this is ego, with several different parties and several different players in the mix.
There’s a sizable portion of the Longhorn world that 1) likes being Texas and wants everything to be centered around Austin; 2) doesn’t want to give up a dime of Longhorn Network revenue, which Texas would have to split to join the Pac-12; and 3) really, really likes being Texas, and doesn’t like the idea that the Pac-12 is USC’s conference, sanctions and all, and that the league is centered around Los Angeles.
- Yes, the Pac-12 wants Texas, but it’s not sure about taking Oklahoma without Texas. Remember, this is first and foremost a business story, and while Oklahoma by itself would help the Pac-12 when it comes to the league’s cachet and as a selling point for TV, Oklahoma State, who comes as part of the OU package, might be too much of a drag. If the Pac-12 could take just Texas and Oklahoma, Scott would find a way to make it happen. If it means getting Texas with Oklahoma along for the ride, the league might still suck it up at some point down the road and take on Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

Dodds is also a strong proponent of a playoff system. He dislikes the BCS format because higher competition has little value.

If they go independent, karma for UT would be a repeat of the six year stretch beginning in 1988 when they failed to go to a bowl five out of six years.
