I asked this question on the SEC rant a couple months ago and only got one or two legitimate responses, so I'll try here. If the Alabama-Tennessee game is so important to each of you, why not play it as an OOC game in the years it isn't part of the SEC schedule? The conference could not, and would not, "end" your rivalry. Only Tennessee and Alabama could do that.

Is this really a question?
Only if you think the AD and everyone else in power at Bama is letting someone who may not be here in 5 years make the decision.

I said I would prefer that to not playing at all.
However, I think we're good playing each other in conference ever year, so we'll stick with that.

I love how all the teams that aren`t affected in any way whatsoever just think Tennessee and Alabama should just say frick it and give up their schedule while no one else in the conference is affected. Furthermore, Bama and UT are berated for having the nerve to defend decades of history. How convenient.

The best is Auburn fans who hope to see their favorite team play more traditional rivals while their Alabama loses one, and then they accuse Bama of being scared.

Nobody gives a Damn about TTSIO, but you jackasses. Really. It is rarely mentioned in any "greatest rivalry" lists....and being a college football scholar myself, I don't think the rivalry is anything that the SEC would lament, if it were played every now and then.
Move to the east and move Vandy west... unless you are scared.

Can you really not see the multiple inaccuracies in this post?

We lost one of our best traditional rivals during the first conference realignment. Now it's someone else's turn.

More than likely we will lose our rivalry with Florida out of this.

This is one small area of college football (important historical rivalries) that LSU fans are clueless about because you guys have none. Let those fanbases who have them (Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida) talk about them.
Let me let you in on a little secret. Bama kicking the crap out of the Vols every year does not make it a rivalry! While I'll admit that LSU-Ole Miss has lost a lot of its luster as a rivalry, it is mainly because it is no longer competitive. Why can't you see that with Bama-Tenn? We have a strong rivalry with Auburn and Florida, and as long as Saban is at Bama and we are winning at LSU that will be a rivalry.
The more I see the realignment basically pushing LSU into the Big XII east, I don't like it anymore! I thought we would grab two from the west and two from the east to make it 16, but this nonsense sucks. Why are we messing with the best conference in the country??

Moving Bama and Auburn to the East would balance out the power in the SEC. Or we can swap Tennesse to the East and move Arkansas to the West! I like the sound of a LSU vs. BAMA SECCG actually!

Bama - UT
If LSU fans had any experience whatsoever in playing in a closely contested rivalry against 2 top 10 to 15 all time programs (Bama/UT, Auburn/UGA) then you might have some inkling of why the fanbases want to keep the game. Let the prospect of LSU losing BOTH the Alabama and Auburn game become a hard reality and see how LSU fans like it. Sure the schedule will be a cake walk but a lot of LSU fans want like it and will protest.

Bama about AU to the East
When it fricks up arguably the greatest interstate rivalry in conference history then yes that's not something fans of either school are going to be happy. Again, you have no natural conference rivals so you wouldn't know.

Bama about opponents open dates
When your team faces a ridiculous THREE TIMES MORE opponents coming off of bye weeks than the next closest team you better believe that fanbase would be bitching regardless of who it was. Some of your fans whine and cry about having to play Florida each year. The same Florida team that Alabama has outscored a combined 101 to 28 the last 3 meetings.

Where would you rank the AU/UF rivalry at the time you gave it up?
We would be happy to give up our third biggest rival, too.

Using that logic, Ohio State/Michigan, Florida/Georgia, Texas/Oklahoma, USC/Notre Dame, Florida/FSU, Bama/Auburn, and Georgia/Auburn must not be real rivalries, either.

That cannot be allowed to happen no matter what happens. I understand that I can't understand the importance of the Tenn-Bama rivalry from the outside looking in.
It seems the only way to resolve this is to move Auburn to the east and play 9 conference games with 2 permanent opponents. That would allow Bama to keep Auburn and Tenn. I'd like for us to keep Florida and Auburn, but not sure if Auburn would want Bama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, SC, and Tenn every year. Putting Mizzou in the east upsets my geographic sensibilities!
Posted on 10/18/11 at 12:22 pm to duboisd
bama should get over it... AU has volunteered to go to the SECE, UA/UT keeps its rivalry, Mizzou to the SECW...

Honestly, I love LSU fans. You guys are great but you shouldn't even bother commenting on rivalries because a lot of you guys actually try to argue that the LSU/Ole Miss "rivalry" is up there with the greatest SEC rivalries. This is one small area of college football (important historical rivalries) that LSU fans are clueless about because you guys have none.
btw, why is Bama scared of Auburn going to the East and gaining an advantage in "talent-rich Georgia and Florida?"
NEWSFLASH: Auburn already plays Georgia every year.
