Missouri has two top 20 tv markets. This isn't rocket science.

This is why it will likely ultimately get done. When you add a state that has no SEC footprint you force the local media to cover that team and the rest of the conference. You truly do add the STATE population due to media coverage. It makes sense from that standpoint only.

The fricking Alabama-Tennessee game is a very minor concern.

True enough and it won't be what stops this thing. Bama & UT know that. However, if you fight it enough then you get concessions from the conference so that the process isn't slowed too long. I would imagine those concessions could include playing 3 teams from the other division - one as a permanent rival (UT or AU for Bama) and 2 of the other 6 rotating in every two years...Or it could include restructuring the divisions so Mizzou goes East (or North).

I agree...nothing wrong with keeping traditions alive

It will never be considered a "rivalry" by UF fans though. Not as long as we keep playing UT, UGA, and FSU yearly.

The Auburn fans are on here proclaiming their "long standing rivalry" with Florida...don't get pissy when its shot full of holes.

AU/UF series hasn't been competitive enough to be considered a rivalry.

Are you Crazy? Auburn may have dominated the series, early on, but Florida was on the upward slide when things were ended. I would love for the rivalry to come back. Don't think it would be on the level of UF-FSU but could possibly over take UF-UT on the heated rivalry list.

IIRC, when scheduling only allowed for one cross division rival instead of two, Florida wanted their rival to be Auburn every year because they had played us more than any other team in the West, but Auburn picked UGA because of the whole started playing against each other first deal.

How short-memoried are you? You think taking on Florida, Georgia and Tennessee is a permanant step down?

UF is down, but not permanently. UGA is quite possibly going through a coaching transition soon (and you play them annually any way, so I'm not sure why you brought them into the equation). And UT is not where UT has been traditionally. AU walks into a better situation "right now" in the East than they have "right now" in the West. If you continue to recruit well you become one of the top 2 in the East year in and year out instead of competing with Bama/LSU for top 2 placement every year.

You replace LSU with USCe. You replace Arky with UT. You replace Ole Miss & Miss St with KY & Vandy. I would definitely say it is a great move for AU. And you know it is too...that's why you want it.

It means it may be a rivalry but people outside of Alabama and Tennessee generally don't think of it when you talk about interesting rivalries

For a fan outside the SEC they know about Bama/Auburn and probably UGA/Florida but they really don't realize rivalries like Bama/Tenn are considered big time in the South

I can't remember the last meaningful, compelling UA/Tenn game. I guess you could argue the Cody armpit block game, but that was really a crap Tenn team they were playing.

And lets be honest, no one in Tuscaloosa or Knoxville gives a damn about what the rest of the country think about the rivalry.

The rivalry was built for various reasons through the years, the opinions of Jorge Martinez of Santa Barbara was not one of them.

I don't think it is a rivalry to AU fans either anymore. There was a time when it was a growing rivalry, but not since expansion. It could be rekindled if AU were to move to the East. Personally I have no strong preference about playing the East or West. I think the IB should be preserved and I hope they also find a way to preserve the UA/UT game.

I am in favor of revoking aTm's membership if that is possible.

This is all going to be a non issue. Mizzou is gonna come to the East, and all will be well.

Link? Cause I don't see that anywhere. Bamas rivals are listed as UT, AUB, and LSU.

Try again

I'd rather play LSU every year than Florida at this point. LSU game has meant a whole lot more in the last decade.

Didn't they continue playing every year from 1992 to 2002?

I don't think expansion had anything to do with it. Its not considered a rivalry...
