Is Texas interested in the SEC at all?
UT is a no go 100% and I have a UT source on this. He won't give any details until after all this is over.

Quick hijack:
Hey man...just moved to STL. Is there a spot you know of for watching LSU games? Is there any semblance of an LSU contingent here?

there is an LSU alumni group up here. Get in touch with Clark Cole at Armstrong Teasdale. They used to watch the games at Ozzies all the time. I haven't hung with them since 2005 though, but would be interested in getting back together with them.

Texas would not allow A&M and Okie to be in a different conference. They would maybe agree to play one as an ooc, but no way do they play both of those as ooc games.

Will do...I'll be working at Barnes starting in July, so who knows if I'll actually have time to even catch games. I'll give it my best shot, though.
Shoot me an email @ *** if you'd like to keep in touch once the season begins.

What influence do you think they have over OU if OU decides otherwise?
I could see the state legislature mucking up Texas vs A&M issues - or the OK state legislature mucking up OU vs OK State
But really can't see how Texas controls OU's decisions at this point

They don't. The only bargaining power they have is to threaten to cut the rivalry game off, and that would be a bluff.

Not gonna happen. A&M is going to go where Texas goes, and Oklahoma likely will as well, which also means that Oklahoma State would likely follow. If there has to be a conference expansion there should be 2 divisions and 4 subdivisions
SEC West
SEC Plains: Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State
SEC Delta: Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, and MSU
SEC East
SEC Central: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbelt
SEC Atlantic: Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida
You play the 3 teams in your subdivision every year as well as 3 other teams in the SEC so rivalry games aren't split up by the new split (LSU for instance being A&M, Florida, and Alabama). Other 3 games rotate around the SEC, and your remaining 3 are OOC games.

quote:OU isn't joined at the hip to Texas like A&M is...OU and Texas have only been in the same conference for 15 years...they don't need to be in the same conference to enjoy their strong rivalry together...the Red River Shootout is not going away, regardless of which conference they both end up in...
A&M is going to go where Texas goes, and Oklahoma likely will as well,

I don't get why Texas doesn't want anything to do with the SEC?
CharlesLSU you got any ideas?

texas has a giant stick up their arse about the SEC
It's what you get when someone claiming to be better than everyone else feels insecure - mostly relates to football and baseball but you'll hear about academic issues from them instead

Dude if Texas is really that academic their decision s would be focused on money and UT OU A&M and OSU would make the SEC far and away the most lucrative football conference.

This is why A&M and UT won't split. From orangebloods.com, which is a great source. Texas and A&M had a private meeting today, and I'll bet the farm it wasn't about splitting up.
quote:
The exodus west by half of the Big 12 has started. Colorado was the first to make it official. The Buffaloes won't be the last. Also on Thursday, Texas and Texas A&M were meeting alone together in the morning, according to sources, before also having a meeting in the afternoon with Texas Tech and Baylor officials. If Texas and Texas A&M are on the same page in their meeting about going to the Pac-10, then the second meeting - with Texas Tech and Baylor - could be the courtesy notifation to BU officials that the other Texas schools in the Big 12 South are moving on.

Read this on another board, no link yet. Seems the Texas and A&M rumors to B10 are alive, along with Gene Stallings saying that a A&M / Texas split are possible. This was lined as well...
Not sure how valid or sincere that would be.
quote:
In a teleconference Thursday, Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said that his conference won't necessarily pl uck any other Big 12 schools besides Colorado, which announced this afternoon that it was leaving.
"I'd say that (having an 11-team conference) is a possibility," Scott said.

it's not. with the big 12 crumbling, they'd be remiss to not try to pick up some of that revenue.

Well, I guess they could call themselves the Big 10
