13 team schedule (TAMU play 4 from east, 4 from west)

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- The least-disruptive, 13-team scheduling concept for SEC football in 2012 would be allowing Texas A&M to play four teams from each division, said Larry Templeton, the chair of the SEC's transition committee.
Templeton, a former athletics director at Mississippi State, said Thursday the SEC transition team continues to be charged with preparing for 13 members next year and hasn't looked beyond 2012-13. The SEC and Missouri are considering a union that would give the league a more manageable even
"If A&M plays four in one division and four in another, there are probably eight different schedules that could come together off that," Templeton said. "As a former AD, I would prefer the least-disruptive schedule that's as competitively balanced as possible for one year, knowing that everybody has to sacrifice a little bit but that we're fair to our new conference member. A&M has had as much say as any other school. They will be involved in how we determine the final concepts."

That's just about the same way things are handled in the Bovine Conference...an equal partnership!!!

NCAA rules state that a team in a division must play all of the teams in their division, although one of the non-AQ conferences has been violating this without sanction for a few years now.

a waiver was given to the MAC because they have 13 members. same waiver will be given to the SEC.
this has been discusses ad nausem

i think it's only sporting that we should take extra care to be fair to the newest member of our conference. i like the 4east and 4west thing. how 'bout they play ut, uga, usce and uf in the east and lsu, bama, arky and auburn in the west? that sounds exciting and fair too, doesn't it?

Sounds great. Give them LSU, BAMA, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee for the first year...

Would this be the SEC's version of hazing?

This is a joke, right? I'm waiting for everybody to start laughing and say "jokes on you, Aggies" before making us play all the top teams from both divisions on the road. This can't be for real.

The MAC never asked for nor were they given a waiver. They just did it and no one cared. My guess is that the rule was written to be descriptive with no forethought as to the consequences as I can't imagine why that would be a rule.
The SEC could ignore the rule too since there is precedence, or they could apply for the waiver. Since the issue is so public now, my guess is that they will apply for the waiver. With no one caring for the MAC, the waiver has to be granted imo.

i think LSU should definitely get a first year shot at aTm. exercise some demons from the early-mid 90s

You read the same article as me, I think.

Madness. Then which division are they in? What if they go 7-1 and go to the sec champ game on some screwy tie breaker over another 7-1 team they did not play.
This is absolutely ridiculous.

A&M would probably love this. They know they are going to get their asses handed to them already, but any four of those as home games are going to pack the stadium (serious money!)

Near certainty.

First, that's why you make us play the toughest of the east & west, so any likely 7-1 team will have played us.
Second, you have a better chance of contracting staph or winning Powerball in the next 10 minutes than A&M has of going 7-1 in our first year under that scenario.

They're not gonna play the four toughest teams from each division. That is just silliness.
That being said, the mathematical possibility that something like this could happen, however unlikely, is enough motive not to do it.
Consider how unlikely it was for LSU to play, and win the 2001 SEC Championship Game, for an unlikely event coming to pass.

I've now seen where the MAC commissioner has confirmed they asked and received a waiver. I stand corrected.
