Both have taken San Diego State and UAB (respectively) or otherwise known as low tier FBS programs to major heights concerning defense. I believe these should be the top candidates LSU should pursue defensively.

I personally love the UAB coordinator to field a defense in the top 15 and I believe top 10 after your FB program ended for a year speaks volumes of his coaching ability. And it doesn’t hurt to have a candidate that can recruit more in the Alabama/Georgia area.

Not to mention Reeves seems comfortable as a DC only, maybe our Brent V??

But either candidate is a massive improvement! #GeauxTigers

I really like Arnett, but am not certain he would make the move. I think Reeves is the best bet. It would be a bad look for LSU to publicly lose another top candidate. I also agree that Reeves is much more likely to stick around a while.

I’m just fascinated with his coaching ability, and if I’m honest I wanted him the last time we went looking. Home run hire imo

I know Reeves has been successful, but he's a 50 year old white guy whose resume is UAB, Jacksonville St, UT Martin, and Southern Arkansas.

My question is, can a guy like that successfully recruit black athletes on a national level?

I thought Bill Clark was widely considered a defensive genius.

It’s not like LSU hasn’t had black athletes. To hell with the pc stuff black athletes just want an opportunity to succeed and enhance their ability to enter into the draft. All this coming from a black man.

I, too would prefer a younger candidate. I just really like the style of AUB's defense the past couple of years. they really get after the QB.

I personally don’t like this take, because which one is it? There’s way to many different standards for example it’s Saban’s defense at Alabama while Golding is the coordinator, but it was Pruitts when he was there, Kirbys when he was there??? The guy has been a finalist for the broyles award.....

Well, Freeman was a public circus and gave LSU a black eye. I know that he was a different type of candidate. let's hope the rest of the search is kept pretty quite until a DC is hired.

No matter who the candidate is there’s no way in hell you let them leave without signing that contract.

If you look into Reeves going to UAB, it seems pretty evident that he is the one running the defense...hard to say for sure though. He does call the plays, though.

What's PC about wondering if black athletes outside of Louisiana would want to play for a 50 year old coach whose resume is a list small colleges?

I probably Varies by school to school. Different HCs probably have different levels of envolcement in their defense.

Saban probably has had different levels of involvement in his defense as the years went on.

Exactly what I’ve been saying, so is 50 really old in the grand scheme of things? I think not

I agree with you. This is not a "PC" thing. You make the hire that has the best chance of getting the athletes you are targeting.

I’d be lying if I said I knew what kind of a recruiter he was. Honestly all he has to do is teach and scheme a defense that will allow players to make plays, be disruptive, and build stats. I assure you LSU will not lack for talent if that’s the case.

In the college coaching world 50 is an "older' coordinator hire. I think that we should go for the best person, regardless.
