and not Skip.

Skip is a wimp and always in it for himself.

He sold out the baseball team when he picked Smoke. It was all about taking care of him and his buddies. Wells and Bianco would not come because Skip wanted them to keep some of his coaches and make a deal on the camp money. He was not the AD but he was allowed to hire his successor. Smoke was the only one who would agree to his conditions.

He doesn't look for the best coach. He said he looked for the best fit. Guess what? Winning without getting in trouble is ALWAYS a good fit.

He does not negotiate well. He negotiated a low buyout from Miles. Of course Miles agreed to it. Any job that was better than this one could easily pay this buyout clause.

He negotiates low buyout clauses for games. How many scheduling problems have been caused by teams backing out of games because it was easy for them to pay a small amount of money in exchange for a bigger payday?

Hell, he only got 100 grand from his baseball camp. That was actually considered to be a low amount. He got blindsided, if you believe him, about Pelini interviewing with Nebraska.

Remember, Lombardi hired Spurrier and Donovan. With him here, the chances of a screw job for LSU are a lot less than if Skip was running the show this time.

that isn't always true..especially in football where so many kids look at college on "who will prepare them best and give them the most exposure for the next level"

Yes, but unless things have changed the LSU BOS has alot to say with any hire.
I hope and pray this guy has the pull to go out and get a top notch coach. But, over the years LSU usually goes the cheap route.

Didn't with Emmert. Dean wanted to go cheap and he said pay Saban what he wants.

LSU didn't go after Saban, Saban came after LSU

he has a friend who is a Ole Miss booster and he made contact on his friends behalf...everyone just fell in love with him when they met him and after his interview
