The key to not having fans freak out about an 8 win season is to not follow it with a 9-4 (5-3 in SEC) season.
The key to fans not freaking out is not to expect any freshman or sophomore QB to lead them to the promised land and realize you are just fortunate if from time to time it does happen. I thought going from 3-5 in the SEC to 5-3 in the SEC was an improvement.

Its the part about going 3-5 in the SEC along the way of a 8 win season that sticks in the craw of the administration and bulk of the fan base.

This and beyond. It's not even expectations anymore, it's a feeling of entitlement.

I think Miles meant that people shouldn't freak out due to an occasional 8-win season.
This.
At some point, every D1 school has to start a new QB with minimal experience. "Rookie" QBs, no matter how gifted and promising, do some stupid things from time to time during the "game seasoning" process. Sometimes close, hard fought games don't go your way, sometimes you get snakebit with the injury bug.
Miles above all knows mediocrity on an ongoing basis is unacceptable and I don't believe that's what he's asking for. After all, who wanted Saban's head after that embarrassing debacle in the Cap One bowl and an overall mediocre year? It happens from time to time.
I think Miles wants excellence year in and year out, not mediocrity. But he wants the support of LSU's administration if he keeps delivering more often than not.
I just don't think he's as cold-blooded as some coaches are. I think he wants loyalty to mean something both ways. We'll see probably here today whether the marriage continues or a new one ensues with his original "first love". (Sometimes, you really can't "go home again". Who but Miles, his family and his agent knows at the moment, eh?)

Sounds fair to me if he also promises to fire coordiantors that have our Offense or Defense ranked in the bottom 25%. Quid pro Quo!

Somewhere along these threads some LSU fans and Ranters have gotten the idea that we are entitled to decide for the HC who is an assistant coach/coordinator and who isn't. I say that from personal experience. I was wrong to have that idea. It is not a popularity contest people, like in middle school.

I think that is a very reasonable request. Miles has a strong desire to win, you can see it on his face on gameday. I do not think that he is looking for a clause to allow him to be mediocre. There will be seasons that wins will be hard to come by due to injuries, inexperienced players etc.
This year is his finest coaching job imo. He got us to 11 wins with 2 subpar quarterbacks. The wins were ugly, but that has to be expected when other teams knew that our passing attacks were near to non-existant. Yet he still put together a 11 win season. He held the team together when the fan was ridiculing him and the team. Any lesser coach would lost the team and certainly have a losing record this year, in my humble opinion.

Somebody tell the WWL reporter to tell his source that the LSU fans would like to see him take steps to correct obvious problems rather than repeat them year in and year out.
His trust in younger players got better this year but his game/play clock mgmt has been horrendous since year 1. Most LSU fans only finally noticed because his teams' sloppy clock mgmt finally hurt us.
He's got to hire competent coordinators and let them alone.
Auburn and to some degree USC, Arizona and Cal gave the blueprint on how to stop/slow down Oregon's offense. If Miles stays, I fully expect LSU will ignore that and continue its methodology of refusing to attack running QBs (i.e. Cam, Masoli, Tebow last year [coming off of a concussion no less], etc. etc.)

Off/Def stats are overrated. The only stat that really matters is W/L. Naturally, all 3 tend to go together, but are not always inclusive of one another. Case in point is Ok.St had #1 Total Offense and WVU had #3 total defense.
The end justifies the means.

He just wants some freaking respect from this damn fanbase, and he deserves it. It is the fricking simple. I bet not 100 people on here ever played college ball, and fewer than that have ever coached a damn thing. Well I have done both, and I am over 40 and I remember LSUs dismal years in the 80's. It is not as easy as it looks.
All these mfer negatigers Miles haters need to go coach pop warner next year, and the ones the go undefeated and win their league and can come back and bitch.
Yes they Offense sucks. Yeah they give you a herat attack every game, and clock management has been dismal at times. But you guys act like they are Vanderbilt or Ole Miss.
All he does is win, he is a great recruiter and he runs a clean program, and is a good guy. That should be enough dammit.

In other words, if I do not work hard and have a mediocre season the fans and the university should just accept it instead of wanting the team to strive for excellence.
I hope we are not stupid enough to accept these ridiculous terms.

he shouldn't be fired after 8 wins. that is ludacris. Give the man his clause.

I don't think he should be fired for a rare eight win season, but how many other coaches have such a clause in their contracts?
