Would Monty Williams be a good replacement for CJJ?

Checks off the box for those wanting head coaching experience.
Checks off the box for those wanting a young coach.
IMHO he had the PELS trending in the right direction.
PELS players absolutely loved him as there head coach.

Although it was the NBA he definitely knows the state schools.
I don't know how well he would adapt to recruiting as a former pro coach.

No.

He hasn't been a HC in college. Hell, he hasn't coached in college, period, at any level. He hasn't recruited.

And I'm quite sure he wouldn't want to be a college coach anyway.

The mannequin at the local Walmart would be better than Jones.

There's no question he would be a better "x's & o's/teacher of the game" than Jones. Unfortunately, you can say that about a ton of coaches. I also think he would recruit well. He seems like a relateable guy whose message would come across well to prospective players. AD loved him IIRC.

The problem is that he has never coached in the college game and has really shown no indication that he would want to. Plus, he doesn't necessarily have any ties to LA that would pull him to LSU other than recently being the coach of the Pels. Finally, who knows where his head is at right now? It's been just less than a year since he lost his wife in that horrific car accident thus, unexpectedly making him a single dad in one of the worst ways possible.

It would be great to get him, but I think he's eventually going to be on a NBA sideline once he feels comfortable again.

Has he ever mentioned that he wants to coach college players? I don't think he would take a college job unless it was Duke or something. He wants to and will be an NBA head coach again.

Avery Johnson just whipped JJ's arse and he hadn't done any of those things before going to Alabama.

I doubt that he has any interest in being a college coach, but I would take him. LSU should reach out to him just to see if there is any interest. The biggest obstacle to hiring a guy like Monty would be the AAU crowd that thinks that they should run the basketball program. I do not see Monty getting along with them.
