That is the same logic as people who were mad when we hired Saban, because Dinardo destroyed his MSU team in the Independence bowl!
Fair comment. Let’s see in 2030 where these candidates are.

He has had some of the worst defenses in all his years...that will a no for me dawg...good offensive guy tho...

quote:That's fair! You could absolutely turn out to be right. It just seems like Brady couldn't leave college football fast enough though. It seems like his passion lies within the NFL. I'm certainly not meaning to sound like I'm knocking him. It's an impressive resume. Just so damn short! Nobody knew who he even was less than three years ago. I didn't even know he was with the Saints, and I bleed black and gold.
Understandable opinion, it’s why I can’t wait to reevaluate in 2030 on his trajectory. Brady, to me feels like Spurrier in 1987.

I think that's kind of one of the issues. There isn't really an obvious slam dunk guy out there that's really attainable. To be fair though, in 2016 that guy was Tom Herman and look how that turned out.
At this point, I'm willing to trust Woodward and let who ever is hired do his thing and give him a chance. I don't expect that we will get an underwhelming head coach.

Lol you couldn’t make our entire fan base happy if you had Saban as HC, Sean McVey as OC and Mike Vrabel as DC.
We’ll obviously Staley would be a better DC, so of course we’d melt.

He would come in hungry and have talent unlike he has coached before. It would be a very good hire.

Yeah I'm looking at it as you're not getting Saban or Swinney. Word is that Fickell isn't interested in leaving the North/Midwest. After that, I think you can find something about almost every candidate that is questionable.

Would be a pretty big homerun hire, imo. I'd be super happy.

Lincoln Riley at LSU would be fcking transformational. The talent LSU has on offense year in and out, he would constantly have record breaking offenses. Add that to his ability to recruit and develop quarterbacks…
Defense won’t be an issue here if he makes the right hire just based on the caliber of athlete LSU recruits on that side of the ball.

Only if he brings his QB with him.

Why? You don’t want to run off Nuss and/or Howard. Riley would turn those two into elite college QBs. He might even be able to with Johnson.

As long as he leaves his DC in Norman

Swinney wouldn’t even make my top 5.

Winning makes most people happy. Lincoln Riley would win a lot of football games at LSU.

Everyone? Of course not. But those people are idiots. Given his age and pedigree it'd be about the closest thing to a "big fish" that is actually available. I guess getting Rhule if he decided the NFL wasn't for him would also rock the CFB landscape. Other than that I don't think there is a guy out there with name recognition, actual on field success as a head coach that would move the needle in a way Riley would.
I think riskier hires like Freeze or Kiffin COULD potentially build juggernauts here especially on offense, but Riley would be the mega hire especially since we'd be pulling him from a perennial contender for the playoffs.

How many playoff games has he won there? That's what I was referring to. He's also lost a number of games that he shouldn't have.
