Tim Brando talked about it today. I think his words were "For Arkansas, it's Butch Davis or bust time"

Yes, because it'll be his final stop and he's a damned good coach. He's still my top pick among incumbent college HCs.

UNC would be dumb if they didn't up his buyout when they extended the deal/ gave him a raise the other day.

he is not going anywhere. he just signed an extension from 2013 to 2014 last tuesday. Now we all know the years are meaningless b/c that contract willnot last 3 years, either he wins and it gets re-negoitioted or he loses and gets fired. But the fact that he re-upped sent a silent but strong message.....I am not leaving now.

Butch Davis is good, but didn't he just sign an extension at NC? Arkansas is talking to Bill Cowher right now. But I doubt he'll leave his cushy job at CBS.

His dad was saying arkansas was a year too late. Said he didn't seem davis moving back to arkansas. If tyson had his way he would shell out as much money it would take.

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas probably is a year too late to get Butch Davis as its next football coach.

"When Butch was available, Arkansas didn't have a vacancy," said Paul Davis, Butch's father. "And now that there's a vacancy, he's got another job."

There's a vacancy at Arkansas with Houston Nutt's announcement on Monday night that he has resigned after 10 seasons as the Razorbacks'coach.

"Selfishly, I'd love for Butch to be the Arkansas coach and for his family to live here," Paul Davis said on Monday, from his home in Springdale. "But the timing just doesn't seem right now."

Butch Davis, a former Razorbacks defensive lineman from 1971-1974, just completed his first season as North Carolina's coach and led the Tar Heels to a 4-8 record after they finished 3-9 in 2006.

North Carolina officials are happy enough about the job Davis did that last week he got a raise and contract extension.

Davis was out of coaching in 2004 and 2005 after being a head coach at the University of Miami and in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns,

Davis couldn't be reached for comment on Monday night, but a close friend in Arkansas said he would be surprised if Davis becomes the Razorbacks' coach.

"I haven't talked to Butch about it, but my gut feeling is that he wouldn't leave North Carolina," said the friend, who requested anonymity. "I can't see him bailing out on North Carolina after just one year there."

Paul Davis said he hadn't talked to his son since hearing about Nutt's resignation, but agreed it's unlikely he would leave North Carolina.

"He'd lose his credibility," Paul Davis said.

So if Butch Davis doesn't appear to be the Razorbacks' next coach, then who ?

Him and Tyson are good friends aren't they? I think he'd make him listen at least with all that money.

They are childhood friends. The best of friends, i'm sure that will play a factor. Butch still has a house in springdale and is yet to sell it. Butch has family here but is all these factors going to get him here to arkansas? I don't think so. I believe arkansas will find a way to eff this up and I will sell my services to cheer for a new team on ebay.

pioneer if frank was running the search I'd believe that too. But from what I've heard the big money guys are gonna have a huge say in this. Besides Nutt already got canned, so no matter who they hire it's gotta be gravy.

For me it depends on who gets the hire. I just hope it isn't like last years basketball search.

No. One word....recruiting! He cannot get the level of recruits he did at Miami and look how he's lighting things up at NC. Not that NC is a good job but Arkansas fans' expectations of their teams "potential" is just comical.
