Would a guaranteed contract be enough to land Freeze at UT?

I hear a lot of college football fans say that Freeze wouldn't touch that dumpster fire in Knoxville, but I find that hard to believe. The reality is money talks and it sounds like UT may be ready to take that chance. I see where fans are painting rocks on campus in favor of Freeze and he's a popular choice on talk shows up there.

I know they just hired a new AD, but what a better way to make a statement than hiring Freeze. I know it's a huge gamble, but every HC hiring is a gamble. It sounds like a win-win for both sides.

The reality is Freeze's coaching career was on life support just a few years ago and now he's the No. 1 available coach on the market and in prime position to cash in. On the other side, UT is the laughing stock of college football and in desperate need of a proven coach to turn that program around.

Is Freeze a huge gamble? Yes, but so was hiring Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley and Tom Herman? You win some and you lose some, but when your program needs to be resuscitated, Freeze has a proven record of accomplishing that.

Like A&M, offering a guaranteed contract may just be the ticket to landing a very talented football coach - as long as you have a very good compliance department and monitor all text messages!

Hugh Freeze would crawl to Knoxville, but there’s not a chance in hell that UT hires him.

You’re actually retarded if you think Tennessee is going to hire Hugh freeze after they fired Pruitt for cheating. Sanctions are about to come down hard on them and you suggest freeze. He’s a excellent coach but no way that happens lol

In two years they'll hire him when the sanctions are starting to lift.

This to me would seem like the most likely scenario.

No big name is coming in this year without some idea of how the sanctions will shake out. Steele will try and hold it together and they’ll make their move in a year or two.

If only there were a board to discuss coaching changes?

Especially at schools not named LSU.

I doubt UT who is in the middle of a cheating scandal wants to hire a guy that got fired due to a huge cheating scandal.

2 points, both valid and very true. In my experience, the "safest gamble" is usually ends up not being so safe. Not sure why, but through the years it always seems to go that way. Including, but not limited to, Bo Pelini.
quote:

Freeze has a proven record of accomplishing that.
What he has proven is he can motivate players, build & run an offense, and is pretty damn good at overall game planning. Both sides of the ball. He doesn't just "run his stuff"; he finds weaknesses and attacks them. He always seems to find a nerve ending. And what those do is brings excitement, a promise of doing "good", the hope of being "great", and slaying a giant every now and then. And that's exactly what TN needs.

Any program that worships Fulmer needs to just admit that AT BEST they are talking out of both sides of their mouth when it comes to any morals, ethics, or playing by the rules. So just suck it up, quit trying to convince yourself (because the rest of us, East & West, were never buying it in the first place), and take a gamble on Freeze (or someone like him).

Correct. If Tennessee asks the SEC office, they will once again “highly discourage” it. My guess is Freeze is effectively blackballed for a few more years. Ole Miss had to sacrifice a lot by firing him

I totally understand what you're saying, but college football is the dirtiest business in the world and college football is losing millions due to the virus. College football is all about making money, period! It wouldn't shock me to see Sankey turn a blind eye to help one of the historically successful SEC programs get back on its feet. When UT is successful, the SEC makes more money!
