With Freeman now the ND HC, how big a bullet did he dodge by turning down the LSU DC job?

Smart move by him last year. Goes to show he trusted Kelly over Orgeron

With the recent turnover in coordinators, I would have been hesitant.

Will be curious to see how much Freeman thanks Kelly in the Monday press conference…

There would have been a chance he got promoted to head coach here. But I doubt that would have happened. Woodward likes coaches with a long winning record as head coach. So, yeah definitely think it worked out the best way for him.

Regardless of the outcome of Kelly and ND, this should have been a given.

Clearly great decision bc Freeman with excellent foresight

I can’t wait until he continues Kelly’s level of success for a few years, Ryan Day leaves OSU and then Freeman jumps to OSU

Choice seemed obvious last year given the increasing instability under O and the stability at ND under Kelly. Nobody was surprised when the LSU job opened up; just nobody expected Kelly to be the one to bolt for it.

Zero bullets dodged. He would have been retained by Kelly. But, he obviously made the lucky choice by going ND and having the HC spot open. Hell of a thing.

I’d say he had a good idea that O wouldn’t be here much longer.

woody and Kelly share an agent. Kelly calls freeman after he accepts the LSU job then he changes his mind.

Another consideration to think about is that his defense may have been good enough to buy O on another year. So to that extent I'm happy he didn't come here.

Ding ding. If you told me woody meddled in the freeman hire to have a better chance to run O off by having to hire a lesser coach, I wouldn’t disagree with you.
