So did we even ask to speak to him? I would have loved to seen his offense with our talent. And if we didnt what was the reason, if there was one?

He was offered $1,000,000 a year for the OC job at Texas and turned it down, FWIW.

He didn't turn it down, he just wanted to explore more options (Pitt HC) before to accept it and Mack Brown didn't like it and moved on to the next candidate Harsin.
