I've listened to the man several times this past year on Sirius 91... he never sounded to me like someone who wanted to call it quits. I also heard him say "I'm pretty sure Nick Saban wouldn't take my job from me", or something close to that.

If the story of his buyout is correct I don't think it would be a smart move.

I call Nebraska...he has the necessary TX recruiting in-roads already established and Nebraska needs a breath of fresh air...even if it does come through yellow teeth.

Rex, I have been told that Mack will get paid his severance ($2.5 million) plus he will remain at UT for the remainder of his contract (7 more years) and get paid $500k to shake hands. That was the offer on the table that he agreed to three days ago (Monday).

at his age, seems like a good deal...I was told a while back that he might get a TV announcer gig too (eg, ESPN)...so I seriously doubt he coaches again.

I always sort of thought he would end up doing the administrative thing (maybe not AD, but some other ceremonial position)

So I suppose fundraising or shaking hands makes sense...but it begs the question: Would Saban have an issue with Mack sticking around in some capacity?

if they are friends, it shouldn't matter, but Nick would blow things up and it could get awkward...might be one of the things that keeps Nick from leaving.

Saban will surely embrace Mack "shaking hands" for UT.

exactly what I was thinking

at the end of the day, Mack can act as classy as he wishes but EGOS will get in the way

it's like sticking around your old house while some dude bangs your ex-wife so you can make sure the flowers stay pretty and the kitchen organized
