Its why Lanning doesnt impress me at all. Literally unlimited resources and still cant win the big one.
In his whopping 3 seasons as a head coach there?

Other Oregon coaches have voluntarily left before
Cristobal is a Miami alum and Taggart grew up in Florida as an FSU fan. I don't really see what similar connection he has to LSU

It's not like they fight real hard to keep them.
Neither of them did as good as Lanning has so far, I think Oregon would put up more of a fight for Lanning.
Now maybe he does want back in the SEC having been on staffs at Bama and UGA. About the only thing I can think of but Oregon has an easy path to the playoffs and talent acquisition, facilities, and money isn't an issue there. I just don't see it but I've been wrong before. I certainly see no reason why we wouldn't make the call as due diligence, I'm just not holding my breath

Cristobal left for Miami, why wouldn't Lanning leave for LSU?

Everybody keeps bringing up the resources Oregon has, but they traditionally don't get into bidding wars for coaches or chase big names. For about 30 years now, everybody they slot into the job has had success.

Technically Cristobal won two conference championships to Lanning's one.
And in that conference championship, Lanning's defense got shredded, and it caught up to them in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. He also couldn't beat Kalen DeBoer in three attempts.
I'm just saying, many on this board treat Lanning like the holy grail of head coaching candidates, but he doesn't have many big scalps on the wall yet.

I mean at some point. being on the west coast when 90% of the people that give a shite about your conference live 2 time zones over has to suck. With that said he more than likely wouldn’t move. But if your the AD you have to at least gauge interest.

This is all fair, but I guess I feel a little more impressed with winning the B1G than the Pac, and one of Mario's titles was a 4-3 season in the covid year, I honestly forgot they technically won the Pac that year. Just watching their teams I guess I'm impressed more with the way Lanning's Oregon teams play. I do admittedly have an anti-Mario bias.
I still think Cristobal and Taggart left Oregon for their dream jobs they had personal connections to, it wasn't just about money. I don't think LSU is an emotional equivalent to that for Lanning

All the travel for games at Oregon gets old. maybe when Phil Knight passes the money won’t be there. He may want to get back to SEC but it is unlikely he would leave except maybe for NFL

Maybe he hates living up there in liberalville. I wouldn't blame him.

And Phil Knight has been in bad health for awhile. What will Oregon look like with no Nike money?

No way Lanning leaves Oregon. You got the Nike man who has contributed over 1 billion dollars to the Ducks program. No one in Louisiana can touch that insane amount of donation money. The money up there would just be ratcheted up for him not to leave. LSU can’t touch that kind of competition of a bidding war for Lanning he is too well liked in Oregon.
