Dave doesn’t wilt under pressure because he’s a tactician always scheming and adjusting, including dealing with the press.

Lastly, Dave can be hired for a lot less money and he’s proven himself a superior tactician to Riley head to head.

Aranda owns Riley regardless of the roster talent disparity. Riley came off as a spoiled brat whining about a FG when he never lets off the gas offensively. Bitch move and his teams reflect their HC. CFP doesn't trust his teams and it shows in the rankings. That will follow him to his next job.

As evidenced by Aranda’s 2-3 star defensive talent at Baylor, defense beats great offensive coaching and talent.

suggest it was Riley’s side

If true, that’s very concerning. The next question should be, why would Riley’s side leak?

Three reason and two has to do with defensive talent.

1) Recruiting- you see whats happening at Florida right now. Aranda is a better person than Dan but from a football perspective they are the same. Aranda won't embarrass our program like Mullen will but those are great schematically and poor recruiters. At times they will get the most out of some players but eventually the program will reduce. Aranda is playing with Rhules recruits right now and its not proven he can continue to build. Advantage Riley

2) Athough Riley inherited a solid program and he has continued to recruit at a high level (check out his 2023 class so far) its extremely difficult to lure defensive recruits to OU. The big 12 is not known for defense and the state of Oklahoma produces no real talent. They constantly have to fight in Texas for scraps to the SEC. Louisiana doesn't have that issue. Defensive players grow on trees down here. My take here is that regardless of the coach, a winning LSU program will get elite defensive players. Something OU has not done in over a decade. Advantage to Riley as an offensive minded HC knowing that he is in a fertile defensive recruiting ground.

3) aranda actually did coach the defense in Louisiana, the fertile recruiting ground previously mentioned and this board bitched and moaned about him as technically his defense declined each year he was here even though he had all the talent in the world. Unless Aranda brought Tom Herman as his OC (since they were college roomates) i dont trust that he would be able to bring the offense necessary to LSU and we have been down that road. Maybe Jeff Grimes would come with him. Which is cool, but he may want to take the reigns at Baylor. Again, advantage Riley as we have already seen Arandas defense in Baton Rouge and at the time, it left much to be desired.

And thats why Riley over Aranda.

Recruiting wins championship, just look at David Shaw at Stanford who has the top 3 salary in college football and last I saw he was 3-6 this season.

So Saban, Helfric, Urban, Smart, Day and Dabo make up your entire list?

If Herman is part of the Aranda staff Dave can stay at Baylor or go to SC

There are only a handful of coaches that have won a playoff game. If that’s your criteria for choosing a coach then you got like 5 to choose from and just fired one of them.

At 12-15 million a year only Saban makes the cut and I don’t think he comes back

I think Riley is using this as a smokescreen to become the second highest paid coach in college football. Plain and simple. I like Aranda with a good offensive coorinator

Not the criteria but for the kind of contract being bandied about the needs to be more than what Riley has done

If you can get him for 8 million go for it but we all know he is not coming for that salary

Yes sir. I agree with you.

Either is an upgrade, I just believe Aranda could be the next great head coach. Of course, time will tell.

I upvoted the response too but that doesn’t justify 12-15 million

My point is that Dave has severely outcoached Riley the 3 times they’ve met.

Riley won last season 27-14 and controlled that entire game. In fact, Baylor scored that last touchdown in garbage time with less than a minute to go.
