I don't see this mentioned much, sorry it had. Here's my theory: Saban assts are underperforming. Universities are hesitant to hire his coordinators because they think it may simply be all Saban. Kiffin doesn't want a minor gig. And he thinks that proving himself away from Saban would help him get a major job.

Obviously, him hating Saban and being friends with O would be factor as well.

Which ones?

Dantonio made it to the playoffs last year and is considered one of the top 15 coaches in the country.

Fisher has won a national title and was LSU first choice to replace Miles.

McElwain just won the east in back to back seasons with, essentially, no starting QB each season.

Kirby is in year one and it's too early to evaluate.

Muschamp underperformed at UF, but had a better than expected season at USCe.

Which assistants underperforming are the issue?

So to prove himself, he's going to go coach for his best friend. Makes sense, I guess.

I'd disqualify Fisher and Dantonio as that was quite a bit ago and not fresh in anyone's mind.

Mc has underperformed at UF. I don't give a shite about going to SEC look at his teams and how weak the East is. He has succeeded bc of defense He was an OC at bama and how has his offense been?

Muschamp- Awful in first head coaching gig got fired.

Smart- Pathetic first year, way worse than Richt would've done.

It's a valid assessment.

For Kiffin, unless for some odd reason Bama does not want to renew his contract he has a job there is no reason for Bama not to renew again after the playoffs.

Bama should want to renew, why upset the apple cart?

Only if he does not get a head gig or Bama does not renew then there is no reason for Kiffin to come to LSU, only reason is an extra 500k -1m on top of what Bama would pay to renew his contract.

It's all about Kiffin. Nothing to do with the Saban tree. The Saban tree is what has schools interested at all. People really think these multi millionaire boosters don't know the shite show that is Lanes head coaching career? Hell to be honest, I'm not a big fan of him coming here because of his past. He's wrecked everywhere he's been other than Bama. Should tell people something. Hard to believe our fans, for the most part, have chosen to completely overlook Kiffin shady past. The guy even shite on us while at UT. He hasn't matured that much.

Why would Kiffin leave? maybe getting yelled at for three years has gotten old.

From CBS sports article today (Jonathan Allen): "Coach Kiffin, he gets real competitive so he tries to scheme us a little bit, but feel like we do a good job," Allen said. "As a defense you try to get Coach Saban mad at him and try to get him yelled at in practice."

How often are the Alabama defenders successful in getting Kiffin yelled at?

"Oh all the time," Allen said with a smile. "All the time and we love it. I'm sure you guys have seen those on the TV, that's exactly how it is in practice."

I think you are digging WAY too much into this. Job wise, there's not a whole hell of a lot of difference between being the OC at Bama and being the OC at LSU. The two schools are in the same conference and are able to recruit roughly the same caliber of player. He wouldn't be moving up the career ladder by coming to LSU.

So it comes down to basically one thing -- If you are going to do the SAME job at either place, wouldn't you prefer to do that job at the place where you are paid more AND you probably like your boss better? Maybe it's just me, but if my only option is being the OC at Bama or LSU, then I'm just going to go to the place who pays more and gives me a better working environment. If that's Bama, fine. If it's LSU, fine.

Butter tooth, Firby and Musk-champ are garbage. Thanks for proving OP's point.

Fisher is aight. Dantonio coaches in the Big 10 is the only reason he seems competent (Meyer was the pitiful in the SEC as soon as Tebow left and he's whipping the Big 10 now....that shows you how weak they are).

Now STTDB!

this is simply false.

His record as a HC in college is 35-21, while not great is a helluva a lot better than 10-25 that we just hired, and even 21-29 if we count the 2 IHC stops.

Kiffin was also extremely successful as OC at USC long before he worked with Saban. He was the OC in 2005 taking over for Norm Chow, with the same players as the they had in 2004 and the 2005 offense performed much better.

People don't like Kiffin because he is a douche and arguably got some HC gigs at too young of an age. But as an OC he's proven top notch and didn't "wreck" anything.
