For all of the complaints about Les Miles failing to win a National Championship with this team, it is ironic that Spurrier has been seriously discussed as a replacement. While he beat the hell out of the SEC for a while, he won only one National Championship with teams that were clearly superior talent wise to most other teams in the SEC. Even in his prime, Spurrier was generally only a pretender on the National championship scene. I believe he failed to win the "Florida state championship" most years, including the year that he won the national championship. His Florida team choked against Florida State in the last game of the year and backed into the championship game against that same Florida State team. The year before, Nebraska embarrassed Florida something like 66-7. If you are not happy with Les Miles' consistent top 5-10 finishes, you would not be happy with Spurrier in his prime. Even old Florida Spurrier failed to deliver National Championships except for the one season he lost his last game and backed into the championship. if what we want is SEC championships, let's wait and see if Miles delivers number one this Saturday.

for the record, i am not giving up on miles yet. if he were to be offered and decided to go to mich. i would not fault him one bit. that is his home. if he stays, i will support him. he is our couch...errr coach.

Good point, but didn't Spurrier turn Florida into what it is today. Wouldn't a proper analogy be South Carolina dominating the SEC for the next 10 years?

I'm right there with you!

Unfortunately, I've had no luck trying to make some of these same points on this board.

Les drops a triple overtime loss to Arkansas in a 10-2 season and they're offering to drive him to Michigan.

Spurrier drops his last 5 games at SC and goes 6-6 and they think the man is gods gift to coaching. I'm very confused!

I just don't get it!

I really don't WANT Les to go to Michigan. I have been a "Hat lovin' gal" for the last two seasons. (Season one was a push.. as I had no idea what to expect from the guy). The Arky loss hasn't changed my mind, either. First choice for me is that Les stays, and as someone else has posted, there be a HUGE buyout in his contract to keep him at arms length every year at this time. Unfortunatly, my intuition tells me that either:

A. He knows he will go IF called by Michigan, and the odds seem to be building that they will.

B. He already knows that he is wanted there, and his agent has things locked up for him there, and now it's just a case of finding the "timing" to announce.

I am sad either way... but trying to stay focused on just being a Tiger Fan and be solidly behind whoever takes over!!
