Players and coaches have special bonds. It is called chemistry. This team had a special chemistry that almost took it to an undefeated season. Miles just destroyed that chemistry.

If the rumors about Tenuta(sp) are true, that almost certainly means that Miles was cherry picking his new staff some time ago.

So we are not only battling Milechigan for players, but for the coaches that will make up our new staff. Get him the hell out of here!

Les is a good man and served the Tigers well during his tenure. That being said, who volunteers to drive him to the ATL airport immediately so that we do not lose any more recruits because we are now a headless ship. I am over this Les Miles BS. This drama has no place in football. My wife watches this crap on soap operas. Good riddance to a man who does not share the same allegiance as Tiger fans. I would never go into battle with someone who just accepted a job with one of my enemies. And for all of those Tigers who think that Michigan is not one of our football enemies, remember this - Michigan almost played OSU instead of Florida in the title game last year.
SOS - Saban, Ogeron, and Spurrier. A dream team of coaching legends is being established. Bill Clinton is recruiting the interns to assist the legends, and George Bush is our Middle East recruiting rep.

Since there is so much speculation about Saban, here are the reported terms of his contract:

TUSCALOOSA -- Nick Saban's contract with Alabama is now official.

The university Board of Trustees compensation committee unanimously approved the eight-year, $32 million contract this afternoon. Saban signed it Wednesday.

Saban will make a base salary of $225,000 annually for the duration of the contract. His personal service fees (for doing radio and television shows) will start at $3.275 million for this year and will grow to as high as $3.975 million for each of the last three years of the contract.

Saban will make $3.5 million in 2007 and will make $4.2 million over the last three years of the contract from 2012-2014.

The contract also includes a variety of incentive clauses, such as a $100,000 bonus if the football team's graduation rate is in the top 25 percent of the SEC and $400,000 if Alabama plays for the national championship.

There is no financial buyout clause should Saban leave for another job. But should Saban leave on his own, he would forfeit the remainder of his salary. Should Alabama choose to dismiss Saban without cause, he would still receive his full contract compensation.

Can anyone confirm that Pellini informally met with Arkansas last week. I do not know if it was before or after the ARK game (based on the game, it had to be before). Anyway, just had dinner with a mid level booster who reported that Skip lost his cool in the locker room when he found out about the meeting. I asked the booster if he meant the meeeting with Nebraska, but was told that the NE meeting took place over the weekend, but the ARK meeting preceded the NE meeting.

Follow the money. Del Rio is more than a long shot. He is getting paid too much, and has the opportunity to cash in even further if his success continues. Whether he loves LSU or NOT (he is a USC Grad), he is clearly no financial fool.

I haven't seen any comments or other indications from Del Rio's mouth suggested that he may wish to give up his pro career for a college gig since he considered the LSU job in 2004. Since then, he has gone 12-4 and is now on pace for a similar record with the Jaguars. Del Rio is currently making $3.3 mill per year through 2008, and the current record suggests his job is now stable and that he is in line for a sizeable raise past $3.3 mill. My guess is that Wayne Weaver, the owner of the Jaguars, will pony up more money and offer an lucrative extension if Del Rio returns to the playoffs this year, which almost appears to be a lock.

Del Rio Article - Raise

Plus, this is not a Jimmy Sexton client. Del Rio is represented by Gary O'Hagan. There is an interesting article on O'Hagan here suggesting that he expects NFL head coaches to start making $10Mil+ per year in the near future. With an agent who believes that $10mil is a realistic option, it is doubtful that he would ever recommend that Del Rio leave the pros when his team is winning. If his name keeps getting mentioned and the Jags keep winning, it would be pure posturing.

O'Hagan
For all of the complaints about Les Miles failing to win a National Championship with this team, it is ironic that Spurrier has been seriously discussed as a replacement. While he beat the hell out of the SEC for a while, he won only one National Championship with teams that were clearly superior talent wise to most other teams in the SEC. Even in his prime, Spurrier was generally only a pretender on the National championship scene. I believe he failed to win the "Florida state championship" most years, including the year that he won the national championship. His Florida team choked against Florida State in the last game of the year and backed into the championship game against that same Florida State team. The year before, Nebraska embarrassed Florida something like 66-7. If you are not happy with Les Miles' consistent top 5-10 finishes, you would not be happy with Spurrier in his prime. Even old Florida Spurrier failed to deliver National Championships except for the one season he lost his last game and backed into the championship. if what we want is SEC championships, let's wait and see if Miles delivers number one this Saturday.

If Del Rio fired O'Hagan in 2004, he has since re-hired him. According to the article, O'Hagan represented Del Rio through his most recent contract extension with the Jaguars in 2006. LINK

John Fox seems to be a good guy, but he is also just signed one of the most lucrative contract extensions in the NFL at $5 mil per year through 2010. I am not aware of any reports suggesting that he wants to walk away from $5 mil per year to coach college ball at a lower salary. John Fox Contract

The agent for John Fox is Bob LaMonte. Interestingly, LaMonte is the agent for many of the NFL coaches whose names keep popping up on this board, including Gruden and Nolan, and an impressive list of assistant coaches, including Mike Singletary. LAMONTE CLIENTS
