Why is there a perception that TT can't coach?

I don't get it? He took an Ole Miss program that was a joke and turned it into someone that could beat a top tier team any given Sat. For all the Ole Miss bumkins that try to tell you that he betrayed them that is utter horsesh*t. Any OM fan that actually knows something will tell you TT saw what he was building and demanded upgrades to facilities as he was trying to take the program to the next level for recruiting reasons and he truly loved OM.Well the "south will rise again good ole boy" committee decided that competing with the rest of the SEC wasnt the direction they wanted to take their program and TT wasnt going to put up with that and left. David Cutcliffe was then able to benefit from the man's recruits and once he was winning demanded the same upgrades TT did. Fearful of losing what they thought was another "good" coach this time the administration complied and OM has the wonderful facilities they do today. TT then took an Auburn program that has always basically gotten leftovers from ALA, UGA and TENN and turned them into a year in and year out Westen division title contender..We all know what happened next with midnight plane trips etc..I would love to see what the guy could do with the cream of the crop recruits and a fanbase and admin that supported him..I hope he goes to USF puts his 2 years in and is on our sidelines in 2012. And I just have the feeling that somewhere deep down TT is hoping this too...Here's to hoping

people that pay attention know that he is a VERY GOOD coach
people question his recruiting more than anything

Agreed. But it's easy to question his recruiting ability at OM or AU. At these schools it's more about convincing the top players of where not to go with the "you won't play for 3 years" or "they sign 5 just like you every year" talk and then you convince them to settle at an OM or AU. Give him LSU which is a natural first choice for many top recruits with just LA talent and some bang up coordinators and I think you have got a completely different situation..

I wouldnt say they were a joke, but the Sloan Brewer probations made them almost dead.
I give him credit for remaking the Ole Miss program. He just has made some statements that have come back to bite him. Plus he may, and I am guessing, have hurt some of his previous employer's feelings. So they may be giving some bad statements.

Not true. Auburn was a consistent top 20 team in the 80's as well as much of the 90's. In 1983, they got robbed of being the NC when Miami beat Nebraska. Terry Bowden led them to an undefeated season as well and they won the west in 1997.

I think he is a great coach, but he benefitted from Alabama being down. Many of those badass players like Williams and Brown might have gone to Bama if not for their recruiting penalties.

true...and Ga. being down last few years. Tenn. also last few years. Made a perfect time for UA to grab local recruits from there also. Tenn and AU are doing much better now.

Disagree....he's too laid back. He is willing to take chances...like a certain LSU USED TO DO.

I think Tubby is a solid coach. He has a great defensive background and he is a solid recruiter. His recruiting has never been really great which can be a red flag and also the majority of his offenses have been vanilla and just not very good. He is known as a hard guy to coach for if your an offensive coach or specifically an offensive coordinator. He goes through OC's like Donald Trump goes through wives. But if you can look past the obvious he is a good coach all around.

Texas Tech can kiss the Air Raid goodbye IMO. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. A coach like Tubs isn't going to come and completely ignore an entire side of the football. He will go back to his old run first tendencies.

He is a good coach. I think he had worn out his welcome at AU and was tired of the job. A change will do him good. The offense may go, but they will be a better team with him.

He had a dominant O-line and interchangeable competent RB's, and a hellacious D just about every year at Auburn. High octance offenses are nice, but the ability to run the ball and stop the other team's O is still the formula that wins.

TT was the best coach in the SEC for many years. 70% of Alabama kids dream of playing for the Tide. AU is second fiddle, and Tubby had to scrounge over 5 states to get his players and built a great program. Pat Dye did also. TT is one of the best.

THIS....I dont think there was a better coach in the SEC at turning 3 star recruits into NFL late 1st and 2nd rounders
