Elite programs are top 5 to top 10. Pre Saban, LSU's win% was <.610 which is no where even close to elite. TAMU has a better win% than that at #25

Guess what? Saban happened, as did Miles, and kids today don't really give a shite about what schools did in the 50's, 60's, and 70's.
Over the course of any current college kids lifetime, LSU is a top 5 program. That's what matters.

When I graduated in 1990, LSU was 12th in all-time win%, behind only Bama and Tenn in the SEC.
LSU also had winning records vs all the SEC schools outside of Bama and Tenn.

I did a quick check at current win% of programs with the logic being maintaining previous win% instead of the boon from Miles/Saban. Not trying to do some in depth research
Even as someone else pointed out, they are #14 in Win% pre Saban. Confused as to where being 11-20 is elite. If so, you fired an elite coach in Miles

Before Saban, Bama went 25 years after Bear left and won 3 conference championship. LSU had 5 in that time frame.
In the 10 years before Saban got there, they finished with 7 wins or less 7 times, and fired 3 of the 4 coaches.
All of that means absolutely nothing to the kids that were born in 2000 that they are currently recruiting.
In the last 10 years the elite programs in college football have been Alabama, LSU, OSU.
Auburn hasn't been consistent enough, but they are up there. Oregon absolutely would be one but they are starting to fall off. Clemson is making their push and probably will replace LSU if LSU doens't get it together. Michigan probably will be creeping into that territory as well soon.

What does what happened 70 years ago have to do with anything? College kids and coaches couldn't give two fricks about that.
Oregon wouldn't have been a top 50 job 30 years ago. Now because of Nike they would be pretty high on most coaches lists.

Recruiting
Recruiting budget
Athletics budget
Game Day atmosphere
Coach salary
staff salary
